Bought this album recently. But could not figure out IR's contribution in this. Did he compose all the songs from scratch? Did he just orchestrate already written carnatic songs?

IR created all the songs (composed the tunes and wrote the lyrics in Sanskrit.) In the five ragas dubbed as the Panchamukhi Ragas.

doubter: all are IR's compositions. This is a pure carnatic album, no orchestration. Check out the 'ragavardhini' song - an wonderful composition & rendition.

the beauty in this album is that either the ragam or the thaLam is "rare" (thanks to hari for pointing this out). a real masterpiece by u.srinivas and co.

Not all are in sanskrit. Songs 4 and 5 are in tamil. Of course, it does not make a difference while listening to it on Mandolin :-)

Sorry, I am not too well-versed in carnatic music to appreciate the nuances. But the song you mentioned was quite elaborate and soothing to listen.
BTW, the 3rd song Sri sivasutha (rukmaambari) was used in "karpoora mullai" (Fazil's movie - starring Srividya and Amala). Am I right?

Thank God! IR has not sung his own Classical songs composed by himself. Atlast Almighty is great to have made him realise the fact.
Mandolin is a good choice instead of his killer voice.

IR sang few carnatic songs along with his troupe

These people don't have the CD currently. But if you can place the order, they will most likely get it in about 10 days time. It seems they sold this CD 2 weeks ago.
