looks like Shreya G. has replaced Sadhana S. man, do I miss KSC!! whatever happened to her??

oh..no..these guys 'prabhakaran and sekar' will do superflous delays/echos into the mix. I dont like their sound engineering. Recent albums of IR had this problem. Also, the synth drum kit track seems to have some noise in it (i mean in s.m.kathai, I think)..
yup..miss KSC too..but Shreya has the potential. I preferred her pronounciation over Sadhana.

Fans,
Shreya Goshal has the potential ....let us wait till she has sung few songs....KSC in her initial days would have got the same response :))

bb,
it is someone else (RK not MK), he had written in Azhagi too.
BTW, fans....heard three songs Minmini Paarvaighal, Enakku Piditha Paadal, Ithayamae Ithayamae. They r really good. Reminds me of 80's Ilayaraaja.

Music of IR in 80's had a prominent component, which is being ignored by him now. It has been ignored again in JG, with no conspicuous reason. He continues to use some of his older components. As long as he continues to ignore that prime component, he can never create the same feeling again. What is that component?
Any guesses?

Bass score ?
- From: selva (@ 172.181.225.31)
on: Mon Feb 3 18:31:32 EST 2003
Was that supposed to be a trick question? 80's was the period when IR experimented with various components and genre!! Here is my guess, he is not 'experimenting' anymore? Is that what he is ignoring????
- From: selva (@ 172.181.225.31)
on: Mon Feb 3 18:35:20 EST 2003
I can't otherwise imagine how one can limit his creativity to that 'One Component'. Please enlighten me!

SPB?
- From: doubter (@ 208.142.210.30)
on: Mon Feb 3 18:53:02 EST 2003
I was indeed referring to SPB. Looks like s0 thinks in the same wavelength. I purposely used the word 'component' to make it interesting.
Is there something that KJY possesses that SPB does not? (KJY is regularly singing every 2/3 movies of IR) If there is, then why did SPB sing thousands of songs for IR while KYJ sang like 200? Is SPB being sidelined for non-musical reasons?
- From: selva (@ 172.181.225.31)
on: Mon Feb 3 19:00:17 EST 2003
I agree that SPB was an important component in IR's magic, though vocals were dispensible in IR's music, (there is enough proof, IMO).
But why does one assume that it is IR who is refusing to 'use' SPB? It could also be true that SPB doesn't want to sing for IR anymore - for musical or non-musical reasons!!!!!
- From: doubter (@ 208.142.210.30)
on: Mon Feb 3 19:08:21 EST 2003
selva
Vocal are dispensible, agreed. But nobody can deny that the position which IR enjoyed (OK, enjoys) was more due to songs than BGM. Average listeners, who contribute to 80% of total listeners, remember IR for his songs. Only 20% analyse his expertise in BGM. Do you agree?
I certainly agree with you that SPB probably refuses to sing for IR. I don't know who started it, but these two are defenitely not in good terms. They don't seem to care about it. Only people like us are the losers.
- From: selva (@ 172.181.225.31)
on: Mon Feb 3 19:39:56 EST 2003
doubter,
I respect and agree with your opinions and feelings. I have no doubts about the role of vocals and lyrics.
If we are down to statistics, then I should opine that, while 80% draws the 'masses' that don't last long, the 20% are the ones that show the potential to take things forward. Masses are easily fooled and drawn away, aren't they??!!

on: Mon Feb 3 20:48:20 EST 2003
doubter / s0..... remember when was the last time IR used SPB for a decent song ? i think it was "Paadi thirindha endhaaan thoozhi" song..... hmm.... its been pretty long..... after that he had given SPB a "so so" song(s) only...... hmm...... i wish IR gives another song with SPB/KSC's voice's...... hmm.....
- From: purv (@ 205.231.147.104)
on: Mon Feb 3 21:02:46 EST 2003
Sree, how did you hear the songs?
doubter, your statement turns me on. The one about SPB. It IS unfortunate that SPB isn't singing anymore for IR. But I'm not complaining that KJY still sings for him. Inasmuch as KJY has an ego greater than IR (so I heard from other DFers), I love him for his majestic voice.

sabesan, did you yet hear 'En Jeevanin Paadalai' or 'Vatta Nilave' from Ilayavan? They're pretty good, according to me (actually, I daresay I'd rate the latter as great!)

yeah. really missing SPB/KSC presence in IR's songs. particularly KSC seems to be hibernating. any news about her??
I don't have any hopes for the KJY song as well. I think it will be another stereotypical soga song like "Rottoram".

I agree. Masses will be pulled away easily. In IR's case they have already been. My reference to them was to only to substantiate my point, whis is; Songs played a more important role in IR's popularity.
Purv
I don't worry about anybody's ego. The Rs.50 or $2.99 I pay does not buy me the right to comment on anybody's personal traits. And I like KJY's majestic voice too. But he is no comparison to SPB. And BTW, I have listened to 'iLaiyavan' (was forced into buying it as it was bundled with 'baaradhi'). 'vatta nilavae' is very good.

Julee Ganapathy Songs - Review
Will be yet another top quality album from IR..Atleast it is refreshing fresh music from IR...Let me get through my ranking...
1) Enakku piditha paadal - What a classic !!! Rendered well by Shreya Goshal. There is another version by Vijay Yesudoss, which is good too. Its a Dharbhari kanada masterpiece...This song will live some long years...6/6
2) Minmini Paarvaigal - At last you get what u always expected from K.J.Yesudoss & IR combo...This is vintage IR stuff. The BGM in the song is mesmerising...5/6
3) Kaakka Kaakka - Hip Hop, IR wont stop...This is rum-bum-bum part II...what an off-beat rock n roll...I dunno who this singer Anitha is, but man, she takes you for a enjoyable ride with her firm grip over the rendition..5/6
4) Thanni Konjam - Sounds raunchy and yet no vulgar hisses & pantings ;-). IR scores good & high by maintaining pep while not squandering away the subtle carnatic overtones he somehow manages to conjure up..(Aamaam, idhu vakhulabharanam ragam maadhiri irukke)..Its been quite some time since you heard a midnight masala kind from IR right? Well then here you go...4/6
5) Idhayame Idhyame - The song has quite complex BGM build-ups, and as you listen to the theme music, you would know why...Hmm Mid-way..4/6
Not bad at all...Kindly buy your copy from the nearest store, and for heaven's sake dont just listen to MP3 bits & pieces...
Merry listening...[Raja sonna "Full meals'kku" neram vandhiducha enna? Appadithaan thonudhu :-) ]
