V Kumar composed a brilliant piece called "Saptha Swaram Punnagayil Kanden " - Nadagame Ulagm - K Balachander . Can anyone tell me if it is based on a specific carnatic ragas

  What a great composer!
  KJYs 'Unnidam mayangugiren Ullathal nerungugiren', Sirkazhis 'Vetri venduma pottu parada ethirneechal',TMS-PSs 'Sevappu kallu mookuthi' were hot cakes.
  
  There is a news that IR opted for V.Kumars assistants Sundarajan and Sekar to compose melodies when he had movies. It was when IR played the guitar in VKs troupe, he had a tiff with PS, which later on reflected in his enormous promotion of SJ.
  
  It is unfortunate that this genius died early.

  V.Kumar has composed devotional albums for HMV. His LP tuned for Seeyazhi Govindarajan which has songs like:
  Oru Naal un thirukkoil
  Balamurugan vilayaadal
  Thirumuga orumurai vaa
  Deivamey Thamizh Deivame
  Mayilaaga naan maara vendum
  
  and the ones composed for SPB in HMV like,
  Nalla thamizh sollale
  Murugane neeye
  
  are all super hits. His assistant music director Sundararajan, (who sang Potri paadadi ponne), was assisting Ilayaraja in his melody composing. A verstaile experienced assistant for VK and IR.
