  Jag, True. Probably the best of the movies kollywood produced in the recent years had IR scoring the music. Plus, he had also scored for off beat movies like kutti which clearly states that he now gives takes up movies which impresses him.

  next, raaja made trash movies to hit the box office because of his music, but it's not in the case of rahman(what happened to "vandicholai chinrasu" and "pavithra","sangamam").
  
  raaja accepted trash movies because he had to
  as he was a beginner in tamil film industry.
  everyone has to do it. don't they?
  
  he produced good music even for trash movies
  because most of the films which were made during that time were trash(they call it a "trend") with only a few exception.
  and he delivered excellent music for excellent
  movies.
  
  i came across someone saying raaja's period was
  a black out period in TFM.
  how can you talk senselessly?!!!!!
  we are experiencing a severe dropin TFM now.
  we experienced a more severe backdrop in 70-75
  period which nobody seem to recognise.
  
  when raaja entered the scene the entire thing changed.before that only the acting giants or protogonists alone controlled the sucess of tamil films,but after the entry of raaja he controlled
  the tamil industry.everyone must be aware of that.
  
  everyone worshipped him as the "godfather of tamil cinema". before the entry of raaja hindi films were dominating the scenario,but after the sucess of "annakili" he single handedly drove the
  madness for hindi films,is this not a great achievement?
  
  raaja is doin only selected movies now because he thinks he needs variety of movies,in fact he is fed up with the same 'ol movies,that's why he is goin for selected movies.
  
  another thing, only three MD's show immense hardwork in orchestration salil chowdry,S.D. burman and illayaraja,do u know that?
  
  so ppl there are some limits in critising,just because you've freedom to say whatever you want
  it's not that you can say anything especially to that DUDE fellow.
  
  moreever raaja can do western,carnatic and of course folk, but look at rahman he is very weak
  in folk music(don't say that the music for "sangamam" is folk music,it's only ghazals)

  20 movies per yr is less IMO. he has done 63 movies in the year 1984.and the average too works out like 750/25 = 30. and man doesnt anybody hav the freedom to change their career plan at any point of time in their life? now he can do ocassionally 1 or 2 movies per year taking rest and planning for something great like 'thiruvaasagam'.
  i expected this to happen around 1997 itself, when in an interview with authors prem-ramesh of the book 'ilyaraaajavin isaiyin thathuvavum alagiyalum' IR said ' konjam konjamaga thirai isaiyilirunthu ennai viduvithu kondu ini paerisaigalai nokki nagaruvaen'.[ though we fans wud long for those yester years when every 10 th day a new album will be released and majority of the movies will hav his music during a festival release :-( ]

  what does this crap mean??? Rahman is businnes of india? raja is artifact of india?? navin, do you know what an 'artifact' means? An artifact is a product of human workmanship. Either that or an error. If you feel Raja is an artifact, only his parents get all the praise/blame for that.

  Anu, after Ramanujan and Tagore, the third "Spectacular" genius of India is Raaja. A genius whose works over time only mystifies more and more. These 3 are not just Golden Sons of India, but more so of the World. They are giving their ideas for the world to enjoy, not just to the homeland where they come from.
  
  These people are first and foremost entities within themselves and they don't belong anywhere, but the world belongs to them. (India should belong to them, not the other way around. These guys are over shadowed by stupid bigot politicians who think they own India and the world.)
  
  Pity the governments of India are not qualified enuff to honor IR. (You know, out of 5500 Tamil films produced, only 1 won a national award!) But, there is the world waiting to honor IR and the Thrivusakam Symphony will bring that day very soon.

  Why is that When people talk about Tamizh, u guys pounce, be proud to be an Indian, but when people say they are proud to call somebody a India (esp IR), there is pouncing back saying they are Tamizh's not Indians.. I dont understand, first of all b4 people start talk ing they should clean up their acts..

  I dint reply because I found that you guys are confused yourself. One guy says IR does not read the scripts, one guy says IR does read the scripts and only then accepts, one guy accepts that IR did kuppai movies, another guy does not. He claims even in such kuppai movies IR gave good songs.
  
  One guy gives a few ARR movies as example of bad movies. Shall I also spell out movies like that? For example, the movie Ulley Veliye. The movie is the worst kind of crap I have ever seen. And if you have not listened to the songs, please go do so. Even deva could not have composed such craps. All the songs are replete with vulgar sounds and vulgar lyrics. And the funny thing is in the titles it says Isai (alias) Ilayaraja.
  
  This is just an example. There are 100s of such crap movies Ilayaraja has done. Idellam sonna neenga othukkava poreenga. You guys will say 'IR is the artifact of India' 'IR is the golden son of india'. Pongada neengalum unga sangeetha gnyanamum.

  Maramandai, we all have agreed that IR had done crap movies. But out of these crap movies, IR had delivered wonderfull music and that's what matters here.
