  an interesting thing to note is that the lyrics "daevan thandha veenai" is tuned after the demise of Kaviyarasar Kannadaasan(KKD) ala Bharathi's lyrics.

  Kanne Kalaimaane was not only the combo's last but Kannadaasan's last.

  Also heard that Vairamuthu completed 'kaNNae kalaimaanae', as Kannadasan passed away WHILE writing that song.
  
  I think Kannadasan is the only irreplacable (commercially AND critically) talent in TFM.

  Vel - "Kannae Kaalai maanaee" was KD's last song..... but "Devan Thandha Veenai" was used in film much after KD's demise..... i guess KD had wrote this long back.....
  
  doubter - are u sure VM completed Kannae Kalaimaanae ?
  
  i think KD wrote "Kannae Kaalai Maanaee" when he was being taken in a stretcher to US for operation....

  I thought "Chinnanchiru vayadhil" from Meendum kokila is also written by Kannadasan, but the raajangahm page does not list this.
  
  The song is a nice one - uses phrases from Bharatiyar's poetry, that on first hearing you
  think it is a Bharatiyar song! Whoever did it, did a good job!

  Thinking abt that, does not the pallavi & charanams of the song 'kanne kalaimaane' show marked difference. The pallavi sounds so much like Kannadasan, while charanams are less complex much like VM's style.

  This rumour is too much. KaNNae kalaimaanae is the last song penned by KKD even before he was flown to USA for treatement. He did not pen any film song from USA and hence KaNNae Kalaimaanae is the last song written by KKD for film. VM has nothing to do with that song.

  What I meant was that song was picked from KKD's lyrics that were not necessarily meant for films. Hence we cannot count that as the last song of KKD. It "could" have been penned by KKD even before kaNNae kalaimaanae, who knows.

  Probabaly one of the best IR-Kannadasan songs is "Kovil Mani Osai Thannai Kettathahro.." in Kizhakkay Pohum Rail. A classic !
  
  A line in that song, "Padal Oru Kodi Seithen..Kettavarkku Gnamamillai..." is the punch.

  Sridevi En Vaazhvil Arul Seyya Vaa (Ilamai Kolam- 1980); a classic, needless to say. At musicindiaonline.com, it says that Kannadhasan was the lyricist.
