Hi all,
I am a huge fan of SPB.I also listen to carnatic music quite a lot. SPB's regret in life is that he didn't learn Carnatic music formally. To me, very few can match him in enjoying what he sings & put 'Bhavam' in what seems be it pathos or dance numbers or "dabaan koothu'(Nobody beats him here). If you see his stage performances, he is the only person who does not sing the song as it is on tape. All the rest , including Yesudoss, Janaki, (people who have learnt Carnatic music)sing it exactly as it is on tape. That innovation within the guidelines is what one expects out of a carnatic music concert. What are ur thoughts - Has SPB lost anything by not having learnt Carnatic music ?

Srini;
No, SPB has not lost anything by Not learning Carnatic, though he is always unhappy that he has not learnt Carnatic, he blames him self for not learning it, being a busy man from dubbing, singing , acting, producing he has no time to learn carnatic, he has asked KJY many to teach him Carnatic, KJY agreed, while saying that SPB is already a master @ carnatic, without any training.
Balamurali Krishna another Sangeetha vithwan, once said in a TV program, that "Balu" can sing all the songs I sung, But I can not sing all Balu's songs!.
THAT IS SPB!
Like fan, said many people especially youngsters do not listen to Carnatic ( with a few exceptions like me), it is SPB through the amazing voice of "Shankaraparanam" made everyone listens to Carnatic.
SPB's main asset is his superb voice, which can be very heavy & tender @ times, when ever he modulates, just listen to "shakaraparanam", his heavy voice here suits the character superbly, although KJY & BMK are better carnatic than SPB, I donot think they would have sounded better, as these to lack the deep voice of SPB, anyway.
SPB may be the greatest singer in india, but certainly one of the greatest!

I know u are PS fan(atic), but please answer the question about SPB's lack of carnatic training, but I also love Susheela amma's voice!

no karthi - spb is much greater than susheela amma. Susheela amma lacks the heavy bass of spb. Can she sing like a drunken man? No. are her kattais deep enuf? No. this facts cannot be denyed.
(not to be taken seriously)

Guys even though SPB doesn't have classical training he sings classical songs like an angel. Look at the song Vedham and Thakida Thiathimi from Salangai oli!

Hi srini;
as you can c from the IP address "Raguvaran (@ 157.95.211.50) ", is not me, but the same idiot who call him self "Isai Priyan", I do not know why he chose the name, as he has no sense nor understanding about music,just ignore him, like when children misbehave, it is better 2 ignore so that they do not repeat the same thing, but this so called Isai Priyan, is beyond that case, just ignore him.
