A bharathyrajaa movie which was not appreciated when it came out & bombed in the box office due to the involvement of drugs & infidelity in the storyline...a nice coming of age movie which deserved a better place in the tfm...which was why barathyraaja said he shld have made the movie in the late 90's....
Kaviayarasu vairamuthu's 1st song for Ir or rather for TFM in the form of Pon mazhai pozhuthu excellently rendered by sp bala (though there is a confusion whether this is true or were the songs megam thiraluthadi by malaysia vasudven/ s.janaki & kannana poomahane by p susheela from the movie thanner thanner by m.s vishvanathan were written 1st)... madaithiranthu by our beloved IR, Poogathavey by deepan chakaravarthy (the only hit he had after poojaikaka vazhum poovey from kathal oviyam)...thoorathil naan by s.sankari...a musical classic in Ir's own rite...any contributions folks...

Evolotion Vii,
Yes. I certainly agree with you that this movie has come of age and BR is right in saying that he should have made it in 90's. Although, there was some involvment of drugs, it had a good storyline, with 3 different tracks, Rajasekaran(reflecting BR's personal story), Nizhalgal Ravi (imaginative) and Chandrasekar (IR's personal story). Each had distinct visions and ambitions in life to acheived.
BR's picturization was nice. But the movie failed because it did not have a good crew of actors/actresses baring Nizalgal Ravi. But, it had great songs, esp. picturization of Poongathave was very imaginative.

Poongadhave, ponn malai, dhoorathil naan kanda, madai thirandhu.. unique in everyway...especially ponn malai song. SPB+IR+VM = what a combination...IR is God's gift for TFM...IR should have received national award for that movie. Like this there were so many movies where IR did wonders...

The song Doorathil .. was not there in the movie. Actually it was the Tamil version of a telugu song also sung by S.Janaki in the movie Sitara (Starring Bhanupriya-MD-ILayaraja). The picturisation of the telugu song was just awesome-Bhanupriya dancing in the kitchen and the song ends with the knife falling on her ankle.
I still remember-the song idu oru pon malai pozhudu was a supre duper hit those days.

Hi dl...just want 2 let u know that I don't find any joy in "misleading" pple...so watch what u r saying & stop accusing pple..just highlight 2 me like an adult & i'll accept it graciously rather than stick name calling...
I don't understand looking at the other threads why pple resort to name calling & downgrade their maturity level to that of a juvenile delinquent rather than have a mature discussion & thrash out their differences.....I for 1 admit if my posts do misrepresentation of facts...
if u had noticed in my other threads I have always admitted in brackets if I'm not sure or if I'm in doubt...& sometimes I post giving my own rather than a general opinion...in fact if other tfmers found me incorrect in facts & highlighted it 2 me, I have agreed 2 them...Dl check my other posts if u doubt me...
coming to my posts...
I agree wif u that s janaki sang dhoorathil naan..cold haven been a typo..sorry...
I said "only hit he had" for deepan chakraborthy...the "after" might have been misconstrued...ok agreed but go & ask any pple what songs of deepan they remember & most probably you'll get these 2 songs...correct me if I'm wrong DL..
I 've already mentioned ponmazhai pozhuthu as vairamuthu's 1st song though in brackets I said there is a dispute going in here whether the 1st song is from thaneer thaneer...but I made my stand at ponmazhai pozhiyuthu...
hope I didn't offend anyone in this posts...cheers

DL- 'O Nenjame'(DC,SJ) is from Enakkaga Kaathiru and not Aradhanai. Enakkaaga Kaathiru also had a DC-SPS duet'Panimazhai vizhum'. Also I still think Poonkathave thaazhthiravaai is DC's first song. Nizhalgal came in 1980, while Enakkaga Kaathiru came in 1981. Perhaps as you say, 'O Nenjame' was recorded earlier.
Balaji, 'Dhoorathil naan kanda' is the original. Sitara came much after Nizhalgal.

ah Evolution 7, got your mail! Man, you are too modest aren't you???? Will be good if you could share with us your many interactions with those in the industry.
An interesting digress on 'Madai Tiranthu' song on Nizhalgal. The movie was once put on Doordarshan in Jun-July 89 sunday afternoon slot. The next day one of my classmates kept on humming the 'thana nana na, thaana na na' part the whole day. (Was it true that this pallavi part alone was composed by Manivannan?) For 12 years I remembered only the humming, without knowing the song or the movie, though I was familiar with other Nizhalgal hits and kept searching for the song. Then one day, I got hold of Nizhalgal entire song list from net and finally got mp3 of this song!
I had a malayali friend a talented guitarist who was not much aware of IR. We'd had a few discussions and he wasnt much overawed of IR's hits. Then I sent him the notes of Madai Tiranthu and asked him to play it on his guitar with his friends.
The look on his face the next day morning was worth preserving!

Hi prabhu...with tfm repository heavyweights like saravan, manisegaran, sk, sreedhar...u can never be short of facts...it is nice to know that such people r contibuting to this website...
sarvanan an unrelated question for u or any other well informed tfmer...from which movie did the song "amutha mazhai pozhiyum mullu nilaviley" took plce...I faintly remember the singer might be ,(not sure), 1 of trichi loganathan's son...but not deepan or tl mahraajan...he had a unique voice & the song came in the early 90's...he sounds abit like 80's playback ramesh (not the present 1)....

After 5 classic movies, BarathiRaaja fell out with Niwas and signed Kannan for NizhalgaL and it has continued ever since. Not sure if someother photographer had worked with BR.
One reason for its failure was the timing of release. Got into competition with Varumayin Niram Sivappu which also had a similar theme of velai illa thindaattam but a strong starcast in Kamal-Sridevi.
BR movies were a craze in that time period and a lot of intricate details where noticed and discussed. For eg. the second interlude in Madai thiranthu song was heard in Kallukull Eeram (BR listening to a taperecorder near some mountains).
Evolution7, your threads can be called as MOTD (Movie of the day) :-)
