Vidya Saagar - Less recognized

Hi,

Vidya Sagar has given outstanding music but still not recognized well in TN. To me he is a perfect blend of IR and ARR. Sweet melodies, Good at Folk with nice recording. In almost all his albums, all songs are hits. To me he is better than Bharadwaj as Bharadwaj concentrates mostly on high pitched songs (not saying all)

  STS if you want to discuss mainly his mallu films u can carry the discussion to TFM artistes in other threads..also I believe that we already have a couple of threads on Vidhyasagar not being recognized etc.check the archives..

  i am agreat fan of vidyasagar. All his songs have an identity of his own.He doesn't copy like the latest HArrisses and Bharadwajes.Waiting for a lot of songs from this genius.What are the films he is doing now?

  I believe he has received Kerala Govt award thrice in a span of sfive years.To be recognised among mallus is really difficult ,they are real critics.Iam trying to collect his mallu melodies

  "Poongatru VeesuM" - is that the song ur referring Cosmician ? that's really a great one - for a long time i was thinking that MD was either IR or Deva (wait, Deva, at times used to give good numbers exactly similar to IR :-))....

  Sabesan...that was one of his excellent songs...
  
  And as I'd mentioned earlier in one of the threads...Deva had me fooled..the song "Enakkunnu Peranthava.."..the arrangements, instrumentations, rhythms, chord patterns were all so IR-ish...until then I was proud that I could identify an IR song by listening to either the chord patterns or interludes...Deva did an excellent :( job of reproducing it ditto...it was only 2 years later that I saw the album cover and found Deva's full length photo with the harmonium...of course copying is the best form of flattery....and they say you learn also by copying...the only song I liked of Deva was "Hey __? Kiliye" picturised on Ajith...I don't know if the tune was copied..but the picturization was beautiful...slick dancing...fantastic sets by Thottatarani and excellent cinematography in that song...

  he is done a symphony in a mohanlal starrer recently with entharo mahanubhavulu as base. wow incredible.i think he believes that only his work should speak-not him,that's why keeps himself in a low profile.does he have a site?

  and Mr.Deva got best MD award (2000) from FIlm EXpress for his Movie Vaali in which he at least copied 2 songs entirely!! this is the scenario now in TFM!!

  Looks in 'Poovellaam Un Vaasam' for the last 10 minutes of the climax is nothing but music. Mini symphony by Vidya Sagar? Read somewhere in a magazine very recently. (Another Kaadhalukku Mariyaathai?)

  'Enakkenap piranthava' is a very good song - typical IR style, It is from the movie 'Kizakku karai'.,
  
  The claim that VidyaSagar hasn't copied is not correct, A few of his songs are copied from Punjabi folk songs - for example take 'Muthtam thara eeththa idam' and 'Hei Shabba' - I have seen 100% same tunes and orchestrisations in other songs - one Punjabi song and the other english song (may be arabian)
  
  Other than these, He is a good MD, His best songs IMO are 'Malaraey, Maunamaa' (Karna) and 'Anbe Anbe Nee en piLLai' (Uyirody Uyiraaga) - Wonderful Numbers !!!!
  
  One problem with VidyaSagar is that he is not consistent, Take Pasumpon for example, it had a couple of good songs but all other songs were below average, (Compared to BharathiRaja Standards :-)., He should improve in this.
  
  Poovellaam Un Vaasam (Ajith) and Thavasi (VijayKanth) are good oppurtunities given to him, he has to use it to stay in TFM.

  VS had copied many punjabi songs. I used to notice this when there where only hindi programs available (DD2--metro) . I forgot many films and examples. I remember one now is from the movie ...(ummm-- Arun kumar and mantra starring). There is a punjabi style song. It's a complete lift from Bally Sagoo's album. Don't ask me documented facts.   i am sorry that i am not able to give the exact details. i am not in the habit of noting down these things accurately. i was seeing uthirippookkal in tv and noticed the tune of that song which was popular at that time.
  
  but, i feel VS is very talented. his 'malare mounama' is one of the best songs in tfm.

  yeah I too think he is very good. In Telugu ( from where he originally is ..) he has given good songs for a lot of low budget movies ...most recent being "Soori" .. of satya fame chakravarthy ... if still enthu, check out " ninnati daaka nenu" ...

  Vidyasagar is a great MD but he get his tunes under noisy backgrounds. The tunes are excellent but i have to keep my ear sharp to listen them through the whole mess of noises.
  No wonder his numbers with soft background music rocks. He got too much base instruments and some junk sounds.
  Simple songs like "Ettilalaghu" from Poo parika varuhirom and "Nee katru" from Nilave vaa are good egs.
