There are certain songs from Raja which never
saw the daylight properly.

For ex. Kamal's MMMKrajan: The sound track
of this movie initially had a wonderful song by
Mano which did not ultimately find a place in the
movie.

Chembaruthi : The movie had an extra song
which was not there in the cassette.

Do you guys know any other such songs?

"Madhurayil Parandha Meen Kodiyai un Kanngalil Kandenae" from Poovaa Thalayaa?!

Also "Anubavam Pudhumai" from Kathalikka Neramillai was censored out of the movie a few days after the movie's release says my uncle.

I'm assuming "Veliye Varaadha Paadal" means songs which were recorded but were absent from the movie for some reason or the other.

Sippikul oru muthu valarndhadhu - Vikram
Manjal Nilavukku - Muthal Iravu (This was actually scored for a movie which was nevere released). The director of Muthal Iravu (Sridhar ?) bought this song from the other producer for his film

Some more songs that never made it to the final film:

1. Durathil naan kanda un mugam...in Nizhalgal

2. Ammava naan kalathotu kumbidanum doi... this song is from Aboorva sagotharargal. If you watched the movie after 100days, there was a 20 mins of Kamal's talk on how the movie was made. This was shown after the interval and before the 2nd half of the movie started. In this Kamal talks about the original scipt for the movie which was scrapped later on. The picturisation for this song is similar to 'annathe adarar othuko othuko...'. This is a great song(Ammava naan..). I had seen this song and having been impressed by it I had actually sneaked in a portable tape recorder to record it live in the theater. The quality was poor and as fate would have it, my batteries failed me and the 2nd stanza did not pick up at all. I would like to know if any of you guys have this song. I think only an IR fanatic would have done something like this!!(as you know, taking a recording from the theater is prohibited). But, I am proud to be one!!

There is a song in Manipoor Maamiyar called :
Samayal Paadame lyrics by IR.

This song became 'Enna samayalo' in Unnal Mudiyum Thambi. (80-90% similarity).

Oru kanam oru yugamaaga from Nadodi Thenral. One of the best songs from Raaja's studio.
I think Kannirendil from Avatharam did not appear on the screen.

"Thendral varum sEthi varum" - an excellent
song by PS in Paalum Pazhamum is not in the
movie. There is a song by TMS-PS: "en manamun
ondruthaan, un meedhu njaabagam"; it was first
made for "Perumaikkuriyaval", then transferred
to "Avan oru Sariththiram", but I think it
did not find a place in that also.

"Anubavam Pudhumai" and "Maduraiyil parandha
meenkodiyai" were both initially censored
because: the first one was "too sexy" for
those days; and the second one described
the female features using items of Thamizh
cultural heritage and hence considered
offensive (essentially a stupid reason;
if they had said "comparing Rajashree with
items of Thamizh Cultural Heritage is an
insult to these items", then that would've
been a very good argument for banning the
song;) in fact the second song was
not even allowed on All India Radio! But
later revisions were done and the songs
came back into the movies; if you now borrow
video cassettes of Kadhalikka Neramillai
and Poovaa Thalaiyaa from Video cassette stores
you will find these songs.

This movie never made it to the silver screen - Nenjil Aadum poo ondru (MD IR); The song is
Maeni engum moga vellam paindhadhammmaa
preethi endru paerai sonnal oonjaladum ullam thannal. Ceylon Radio used to play this one very ofter back in the early 80's

The original Samayal paadamey was also sang by SPB. Even if IR had been the singer (he was not) that would not have been his first song. (Anyway this part belongs to List of First forum!

aadi pattam thedi thennal vedhai pottu -- from michael madana kamarajan is not here in the movie.

Also

dhoorathil naan kanda un mugam from nizhalgal, is not there in the movie, one more interesting thing abut the song is that, it was not recorded for the movie, actually S.janaki got national award for the song in telugu, music is by raja, as a sentiment the song was recorded in tamil.

Just the opposite of this discussion, which
I noticed - the same song, used in
two different movies - not for comedy but for
serious scene:

Nilavaip pArthu vAnam sonnathu, ennaith thodAthE

from SavalE samALi and Engal Thai - both
directed by "malliam" rajagopal. It was told that
the original was in Engal Thai - Sivaji liked it
so it was used again (Engal Thai was a total flop)
in SavalE samALi.

U.Su.Vaa had a song which didn't make to the screen, 'ulagam sutrum vaalipanodoru payam' by TMS, PS.

One of these two songs from 'Ooty varai uravu' was not in the film - 'Yaarodum pesa koodaathu', 'raaja raaja shri raajan vanthaan raaja pogam thara vanthaan' - both by PBS, LRE.

movie titled, 'Kizhakku Africa-vil Raju" (in

This is a list of songs of Raja which were never used, posted earlier
by Ramakrishnan (Ramki@newton.proteq.com.sg).

1) Malargalae Naadaswarangal

- This song was recorded for "kizhakkae pogum rail". Muthulingams nice
lyrics were beautifully rendered by Malaysia and Sjanaki

2) Dhoorathil naan kanda un mugam

- Fantastic song in Nizhalgal. I still wonder why Bharathiraaja failed
to include this song. It can be considered as one of the best of
Sjanaki. Incidentally she bagged her second national award for the
telugu version of this song in the film "sithaara"

3) Putham pudhu poo poothadho

- from "Dalapathi" (could have been for Rajini and Banupriya). A
pleasing song by KJY and SJ

4) Raasave unnai nambi

- Only the first four lines of the song was shown in the film "Mudhal
mariyadhai". Another masterpiece by SJanaki (meaningful lyrics by
Vairamuthu)

5) solladha raagam ennenne

- from "Mahanadhi". This song could have been a duet for Kamal and
Suganya.I was happy that this song was not picturised as it could have
spoilt the seriousness of the movie

6) adi aathadi nee pogum paadhai enge ponmaane

- from "kadalora kavaidhaigal" (by Malaysia Vasudevan and Sjanaki)

7) putham pudhu kaalai ponnira vezhai -

from the film "alaigal oyvadhillai" a superb song by Sjanaki. But
later Raja used the same tune for a song in the film "????? appu"

Also one more song "Un nenja thottu sollu en raasave, en mel aasai
illaiya?" (P Susheela, Chitra) from "Rajathi Raja" (Rajni, Radha and
Nadiya) was never used in the movie. This song was supposedly bought by Ramarajan to be used in one of his
films (esp. for the word "raasavae"!). But I don't think it was
actually used.

The "Thalapathi" song "puththam pudu poo" is not used in the movie but
the background music for the scene just after Rajni and Banupriya are
married carries the tune of this song.

There is a movie "panchami" directed by Balu Mahendra. The movie never made it to the big screen. Three good songs. One Janaki song has brilliant orchestration.

1. Maalai Veyil Paadum Sindhu Sindhu - M Vasudevan
2. Udhaya Kaalamae - P.Suseela
3. Pani Katrin kulumai - S.Janaki
