IS CLASSICAL MUSIC A MISFIT FOR TFM ? -Sudha Raghunathan and Sirkali Sivachidambaram deserve proper usage in tamil films.

Sudha Raghunathan the noted classical singer and the noted tamil classical singer Sirkali Sivachidambaram are not properly used in tamil films. Be it Ilayaraja, AR Rahman, Deva, Vidyasagar or Harris Jairaj - Utilising Classical musicians in films will definitely enrich the quality of the songs in tfm. Is it because of an inferiority complex with the music directors who are uanble to match good songs with their voices?

  does use of classical music in films necessarily mean the use of pure classical singers only. Isnt a song like 'Ezhu swarangalukkul' almost as good though its by VJ, whose not a pure classical singer.

  I would anyday prefer a Chitra to a Bombay Jayashree or Nithyashree... and SPB to UnniK or Hariharan. So much for classical singers in FM.

  I agree with Suresh that Chithra is definitely a more preferable person when it comes for a choice between people like Bombay Jayasree or Nithyasree.
  There is an added advantage for Chithra that alongwith her great talents in melodies, she is also a qualified and trained classical singer.
  
  But this need not be true with other melody singers who are not trained in classical music. Classical singers definitely can quickly adapt themselves to the music and the typical example for the success stories are persons like KJY, KSC etc.In 90% cases, the basis for MDs to score music is Karnatic Ragas and it counts a lot.
  
  So coming to the relevant subject of Sudha or Sirkazhi Sivachidambaram, I feel TFM should utilze them better and I am sure great contributions will come from them. As for Sudha Raghunathan, she is the best female classical singer of the present days. She has a typical style of singing, and this talented "Shishya" of the legendary MLV, no doubt, needs to be utilised in TFM.(sometimes somebody started a topic in this forum about Sudha, but it did not take off well ).The same logic applies in case of Sirkazhi Sivachidambaram. He is a highly talented singer coming with the rich legacy of classical talents left behind by his great father, Shirkazhi Govindarajan, whose songs with classical base always created landmarks in Tamil Music.
  However, it does not mean that only classical singers should sing in TFM.Music is divine and it is built in some people, irrespective of whether they studied music or not.So let us have a combination of all of them and wait and accept great singing contributions.

  Kutty - both KARNATIC and CARNATIC are accepted pronounciations of the word.... No worries.
