I wonder if anyone can tell me whether the mellifluous voice of PB Sreenivos will ever appear in new songs? Or will we continue to drown in SPB ? Not taht the latter is bad...

VS: I am not sure if it is a good idea for PBS to stage a comeback, given his age and TMS's preformance in his comeback. :-).
Seriously, when last heard he was busy writing poetry and used to hang around drive-in woodlands in Madras. (This was atleast 5 yrs. ago).

Yes, Ravi, he was seen hanging around there till '96 when I bumped into him. He is a wonderful person to talk to. There is absolutely no prejudice in him (obviously he would not fit into this forum) and you could talk to him about any film song in any language. He has apparently mastered the nuances of Urdu and writes poetry in Urdu!! Yes in Urdu script !!!
I have held his base voice and singing style in the highest esteem but I think his singing days are over. He attempted singing "KaalangaliL avaL vasantham" in one of the TV programmes and the result is something that I would not like to write about , being his ardent fan. IMO, one could notice a slight deterioration in the only song he sang for IR "Thendrale nee pesu" in "KadavuL amaitha medai".

I get nostalgic! PBS was a phenomenon in Karnataka. Around the late 70's he got phased out by SPB but continued to have some "guest" songs till the late 80s. Since then I haven't heard a single new song. I agree with Sriram that somehow the melody started to disappear in the mid-80s. Yet, the last song I have heard of his "ninnee naguve aruNOdhayavu" from "adhey kaNNu" was a very nice song. May he live long and may HMV bring out a complete collection of his songs on CDs. A pity we haven't had anyone with his style of singing, though I have heard from people that G.V.Atri comes close.

I had gone to Chennai recently (about a month back) and noticed him writing poetry. This was at Woodlands drive-in.
He is a very active person (considering his age) and a very talented one.

My friend also saw him in Woodlands drive-in two months back, with stacks of books and writing some stuff seriously. Looks like he lives in Woodlands drive-in ;-)
(avvalavu mummuramaa andha busy-yaana edathula appadi ennadhaan ezhudhuvaarO ? ;-))
