Interestingly, in one of the under-production films, Ashok Amritraj plans to introduce, to Hollywood audiences, a music composer who has swept the Indian imagination. A R Rahman, to give him a name.

  This is the english movie produced by some NRI indians with cheeranjivi at the lead character. AFIK, ARR might be doing music for this movie too.

  muthalla Rajini, ippo chiranjeevi ! aduthathu yaru mammutiya? ithu TDS! Hollywood folks will have a tough time in pronouncing these names. Let us try to give them some nick names.
  chiranjeevi = chiran (most will pronounce it as "chairan" or "shiren"..)
  mammutty = mammu or mamu ..

  I saw the rediff article. One thing is, unless the movie is musical, ARR is not going to have much scope in creating impression. Still his BGM are not on par with his songs ( I watched rangeela recently, and BGM is really bad). Frankly, apart from anand amirtharaj saving few bucks with ARR, I don't see much coming up from this association.

  I think you are underestimating Arr,
  , Arr is very fast learner, agreed he is pretty poor in bgm scores - I feel he has not concentrated enough in RecRecording scores till now due to lack of interest. As a musician, if the songs are doing well, I would try to sell that more!,
  
  Finally, We cannot rule out that he cannot do it at all, if there is a need to swim in the sea I am sure he has all the engery to do it.

  I have no wrong illusions about ARR's talent. He is very good in adapting to the need and requirnment. But in english movies, It is very difficult to get attention from just the BGM alone, and that too if the movie is not from the top directors and stars. IMO, there are so many music directors there, who can do more than adequate job in BGM. Unless the BGM score is like dead man walking, or natural born killers ( just being different from other scores), it will go usually unnoticed.
  There is a scope for ARR to create few songs for the movie sound track ( which is a good way to market movies these days).
  But to me, IR is better bet than ARR for this, just like ARR is more suited/capable to venture into world music pop than IR.
  Still, It is a good news for all the TFM fans here including me.

  Raja is good and great in BGM,
  but this fact does not deny a chance to ARr, he (arr)has earned the name/fame and as of today he is on the top hence he his noticed by the producers,
  finally, as you put rightly it is good news to all the tfmfans....

  Earth has been generally well received by critics, but the Los Angeles Times gave it the thumbs down. The movie, which grossed an impressive $ 500,000 at North American theaters, did not go well with many foreign press members. Insiders said many voters expected a film like Mira Nair's Salaam Bombay.
