Folks,
Yanni was on Larry king live on Friday(06/05/98)
and was talkin about promoting his new album "tribute".He is doing a 18 month road trip across the world. Its typically a 3 hr perfomance and then an half hour technical Q & A session. When asked why this road trip,he said his mucic can have a much more profound effect when its live rather than on a CD.He wanted to feel the pulse.
This I think is true as this gives the audience a much better upliftment rather than listening to a CD at home.
I think IR can plan a road trip across India to promote his sysmphony(if released) and try to reach out more.IR wants us to come to him.He does'nt want to reach out.I am not sure wether this is egostic or pure self indulgence.I think any artist needs some kind of reach and Yanni was clearly making a point.
Thoughts on this would be interesting.

yaarnaan sir,
I am neither a long haired nor a Yanni fan. ( Leave alone being his fan, I have not even heard to one album of his. )
Actually, I was reading through all the threads and I responded to this because of the discussion about raja should or should not go on tours. I thought that was interesting.
As far as comparing raja and ARR in the presence of ARR fans. Lets be a bit level headed. ARR has composed few very good songs. How many? May be 6 or 7 good ones. And I give him respect for that. That's it. Period.Nothing more. How could we even think of comparing IR a phenomenon, a legend with a small time guy. I dont even try doing that. It's a waste of time. I know and they (ARR fans) know who is superior to whom.
one more thing... "Raja's compositions can only be beaten by another of raja's composition" Actually I have not heard much of his(heard just kadhalluku Mariyaadhai) recent songs. But that statement is true atleast until early 90's.
btw Iam offended that you took me to be a Yanni fan.(very)
Anyway, I wont be a regular here. I'll occasionally browse through some of the IR info.
You people are doing a good job.
good luck Yo'll

This site is like our latest Indian movies. Repeating the same stuff again and again.
ARR Fans one side and IR Fans on the other side.
Every one knows both are doing great job in there own style.
I am really worried the way things are going, let it be movies or music.
Movie are same old junk, (let it be MR ,BR, BK, RM etc etc etc) nothing new. They are not even trying to enter the next level. Nearly 600 movies are released in India, and all the movies are of same subject. Girl meets boy, and first half they will fall in love, before interval there will be a twist and the happy climax.
I was just trying to understand the Indian movies. Lately I realized that in India we don't have horror, comedies, action, thriller, adventure or sci-fi movies. How can you expect any MD to give different music, when the subject does not change for past 30 years, we are stuck to the same formula movies? First we should try to change the director’s way of think. If you see old movies they had lot of goodies and they were very innovative. They used different camera angles and lighting. Hollywood used to learn from India and Europe. Indians were considered to be very good in handling camera, but now everything is still. No one is thinking different, ‘Hey Ram’ was a different movie, that’s the reason IR was able to give great BGM and Songs, but failed to do for other movies, this is not ‘cause IR sucks, its ‘cause Indian movies sucks. It’s the movies that should drive the music. Critics – I really don’t know what are they doing, most of the time they don’t know what they are writing.
Now a day the Indian directors are not even good in copying.
Any way I can keep on writing, most of the things does not matter for most of the people. Some may call me stupid, but this is what I think. ‘Indian Movies Suck, how can a MD be blamed for its success or failure’?
‘DON’T ASK ME ABOUT HINDI MOVIE! PLEASE’

star jones,
The raja being discussed here is short for Ilayaraja, who has been scoring music for films for about 25 years now (raja also means king). He has done about 800 movies, mostly in the Tamil language (one of the south Indian languages, in case you don't know). He is revered as a genius and legend, and I am sure you will find his music as exciting and beautiful like nothing else you might have heard. The raja you saw on TV is most certainly not the same person, firstly because he has not performed with any rock artist as yet, and secondly, because he is far from chubby.
hari,
i think we can do much better than LOL at someone like star jones. that way we spread the message of raja's music.
