Kaumudi i disagree with you. Speed is certainly a quality if not the only quality. Defenitely IR is better than all the Music Directors you mentioned. I do not know if they are fast enough. But Certainly Illayaraja had some special talent which nobody else had. That's why the title Genius which nobody else has won in India. I will give you an example.. To compose for a movie.. you need to create tunes, get the lyrics, compose them and record them. On top of that you have to score background music. Tell me how many days it will take for a normal human being. If you entrust me this task i would take more than 2 months. At one point Illayaraja took just 5 days or less for each movie. Considering the fact he is a wizard of BGM, while analyzing him you should take his speed into consideration.

Speed is the primary measure of not just quantity but quality of the tunes and variety. So, IR stands apart from all known composers of humanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want to know what speed does and does not do, look at ARR. Fellow takes all possible methods to get one song conceived (forget the composing and conducting part) and that means not just limiting quality of the tunes in a consistent manner but limits ideas.

Unmai
Considering the fact he is a wizard of BGM, while analyzing him you should take his speed into consideration.
I did not try to analyze him, for sure. I was simply saying that Kiran made a wrong conclusion from the article that since IR is talented and he works with great speed in producing good quality songs, anyone in general who works with speed is talented. Now that is an absolutely incorrect conclusion and interpretation. That's all my point of contention was.
SPEED is of essense
I don't have anything to say to you if you think ARR is less talented because he works slowly. You need to put forth some valid, strong points to show that he is less talented, that is if you really think so! And by the way, I don't by any means think ARR is less talented.
And please don't undermine the talents of both IR and ARR simply based on their speed of working. That is simply a bad premise to work with.

Kaumudi: sorry I may have gone a bit way off. But, basically speed is an indicator of energy levels which leads to more creative powers and unrestrained output. So far, ARR could go the way of Ravindra Jain or if lucky maybe as much as Salil Chowdhury. But, I don't expect him to be prolific like IR or MSV. One end of the spectrum is that Biddu who composed internation hits too, medium is ARR / Jain a few notches ahead is SC /RDB and far ahead at the other side of the spectrum is MSV and beyond way further IR. So, ARR is indeed done cookin, but we can expect some surprises here and there in the next 10 years! His composing life will be shorter maybe a total of 25 years at the most.

Aswathama: man, this is news. Finally, IR will attempt to clear up the mystery of the Symphony!!! Always unfinished business can take up our energies and I am sure the time is almost right for IR to release the Symphony and then have that clarity to get back to more exciting projects

Romba sumar thaan.....If raaja really said that it will be the biggest thing after chinnathambi....then he is definitely not in sync with the current things....Iam a hardcore fan of the MAESTRO and it is tough for me to hear the songs...the second time. After hearing Appadi and Enna Enna from Ivan.......En manavanil is nothing.

Thanks Cheithi!!
The album (from the teasers I heard) is very good.
here's a quick 1st impression:
1. Enna Solli pAduvathO (Hariharan, SAdhana Sargam)
A breezy duet, melodious tune with pleasant orchestration and neat lyrics. Great singing by Hari & Sadhana. (She can improve her diction still). The raga seems to be Sudha DanyAsi based
(like Kala kalakkum maNi Osai)
2. Unnai Thedi VeNNilA (Hariharan)
This solo song by Hariharan has a refreshing feel to it. Trendy beats and minimal instrumentation makes it an easy-listening number. Still have to listen to the entire song to get a better feel.
3. Kuthu Kuthu KummAnguthu (Mano, Surendar, Karthik, Harish Ragavendar, Sujatha & Chorus)
Seems to be a situational comedy number (can hear Vadivelu in the soundtrack). Can be better enjoyed on screen, perhaps.
4. Unnai kANum podhu (Hariharan & KArthik)
This may appeal to today's gen. A groovy rhythm, synthesizer etc. Sample these lines inbetween: You are the song of my soul, you are the soul of my song! Worth a listen.
5. RoatOra pAttu Chatham KekkudhA (Yesudas, Shruti Kamal Hasan)
I loved the tune.. Looks like a song sung on screen by folk musicians/nomads. What an amazing interlude!! My only complaint: Shruti sounds amateurish in her singing. Wonder what made IR choose her? perhaps he wanted an untrained young girl's voice ;)
6. Unnai Thedi vENNilA (IR)
Repeat of hariharan's number with IR as the lead singer. He sounds very peppy!
7. Muthu Muthu PoNNukkoru MuthumAlai (Karthik, BhavadhAriNi
I just loved this song!! Very interesting composition with some great renditions. Excellent rhythm, orchestration & interludes make it one of the best songs in the album.
8.Vayasu Vantha vAlibanukku pONNu kodukkaRiyA?(Napolean, Surendar, Biju, Swarnalatha & Chorus)
A typical IR folkish song, in the Chinna Thambi, Enga OorupAttukkAran genre.
The song is set in the raga MAya mALava gowLa. Sounds nice. SwarNa Lata starts off like SJ did in the 'Muthu Chamba Pacha Nellu' song in AnnakkiLi.
I am looking forward to listening to the entire album. When is it releasing in the US?

i liked vayasu vandha, kuththu kuththu and roatOra pATTu instantly. unnaik kANum pOthu sounds like a yuvan's composition (= crappy). the other songs might need a couple more listening to really form a opinion.
