Amazon.co.uk Customer Review
Bombay Rocks!, 18 June, 2002
Reviewer: darkmaverick from Southampton, Hampshire United Kingdom
When I first heard that Andrew Lloyd Webber was working on a production called "Bombay Dreams", I must admit at first I raised an eyebrow and thought "Has he gone stark raving mad?". Luckily it appears not! He has gone on record as saying that this show will change the face of musical theatre in the UK, and he's right! This album encapsulates the essence of Bollywood, from the first sweeping strings to the breath taking dance numbers. I was not a fan of asian music, but this album has certainly made me change my mind. A R Rahman's ground breaking music fuses ethnic indian with western beats. The songs are simply stunning and lyrical (The best being Like An Eagle, and Chaiyya Chaiyya), and makes you WANT to see this show. If the production is as colourful as the album, this is one dream you will want to have, albeit in your cd collection!

hahaha...the above post is probably from some Webber side-kick trying to jump start sales...Hollywood studios do this too..send employees to usenet newsgroups and try to start a "buzz" about some crappy movie.
Seriously, I think I know why Britain ruled us for so long. I saw this post on rahmanonline.com, where this desi chap, who had been to the preview, ended his post with "even an englishman sitting next to me was tapping his feet!"..Gawd! such low self-esteem...not to mention the drooling in the Indian press about "praise" from some two-bit London tabloids..we will never be able to get rid of the slave mentality I guess...

Once you enter the spirit, the show, cannily produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, is a delight. And it brings to a mainstream audience the astounding musical talent of AR Rahman, the 36-year-old "Asian Mozart" from Madras who has sold more records than Madonna and Britney Spears combined.
WOW!!!

i read the review in The Hindu today........tis was just excerpts from different Emglish magazines and some small additions of their own.
The main details which were given were that Bombay Dreams wasn't all that welcomed by the British people........tis given that some ppl fell asleep in the first few minutes........the "gooey" story is not practical......twud require a lote more for the show to become a big hit.
However the encouraging things according to the wite up was ARR's music.........tis given that irrespective of whether the show becomes a hit ARRs music would take him to great heights........and he was called as the "Asian Mozart" whose cassettes have sold more than Madonna and Britney Spears put together!!
ok ppl..........now don pounce at me ;) ........those werent my opinions.......that was what the newspaper said :) ........naan innum Bombay Dreams pattukooda fulla kekkaley :) :(

"SHAKALAKA BABY" single from BOMBAY DREAMS ranked 24th in The Box Top 100 charts. (even before the release of the single !!!!!) .
"SHAKALAKA BABY" has gone ahead of such big hits like ENRIQUE IGLESIAS - ESCAPE, RONAN KEATING - IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES etc.
Three cheers to the "Asian Mozart" !!!
You are doing the country proud.

From the various reviews it looks like the prayers of HCIRF for a BD crash seems to have been answered by the Almighty.
ALW seems to have done a "Nandhavanathil oor Aandi".

//and he was called as the "Asian Mozart" whose cassettes have sold more than Madonna and Britney Spears put together!! //
this equation very conveninetly ignores the foll facts-
population available to the artistes.
number of albums.
cost of casttes(very high in the west-ours is better and affordable)
but,any day,our people like IR and ARR are 100 times better than these names.
