BTW, SPBala was 19 when he sang his first song (Even ARR couldn't beat that!!)

A small anecdote on SPB's first award. He reportedly did not want to sing for Shankarabharanam as he did not want to "ruin" this film - which was based on classical music - with his untrained voice. But the music director, who felt in his bones that SPB could deliver the goods, persuaded him to sing for this film. The rest as you know is history.

BTW, do you know, who are the singers for the song, "maniye mani kuile maalai iLam kadir azhagey", the duet in "Nadodi Thendral"? Try to guess, from memory without looking at the cassette/cd covers. A surprise awaits you! :-)))

NOV:
There was a confusion as to who sang the song in "Nadodi Thendral". It was announced on radio as Chitra all the time. Even S Janaki denied she sang it..

Don't know what the exact problem was.

Also, in Shankarabharanam, it was the song recordist who insisted that SPB be used for the songs. Don't remember his name. When SPB made his recording studio, the first employee was this song recordist!

Answer to question on who are the singers for Maniyey manikuyiley from Naadodi Thendral:

For this song Illayaraja got Mano to sing like SPB and Chitra to sing exactly like S.Janaki! S. Janaki's fans were outraged that the song was credited to Chitra when it was actually S. Janaki's. When the song was on the top of the Tamil "Cibaca Geeta Maalai" list, S.Janaki was asked if she had sung the song, but she said she had nothing to do with the song. (But it is still tough to believe that).

It is not just any song in Hindi from a Tamil movie,but a 'proper' ghazal that I'm looking for.

The villain in the movie keeps on repeating the first line of the ghazal sung by Khushboo,so if U have seen the movie,KB sees to it that U remember that ghazal.

Peyarillaathavar almost got it- Shabahs!. Song no 6 is Germanyin senthein malarey.
Another Malaysia song is Batu malai thiru muththu kumaranei paadi vanangiduvoam with subsequent lines: Indu kadalil Malaysia naattinil sen Thamizh paadiduvoam. This song is from Varuvaan Vadivelan sung by a host of singers including TMS, Sirgazhi and AR Ramani Ammal.
There are plenty for no 10. Another one would be Ilangaiyin ilan kani yennoadu isai paaduthoa by TMS & PS.
