Hi!
Please Check out the latest issue of Ananda Vikatan.
The Cover-story is on IR. It made very interesting reading. He has in fact talked about the issue of him lending full support to the people interested in promoting his music world-wide. Please go through it. For all of us participating in the IR Revival forums, it's great news!

I have been very inspired by the outpourings of various fans in the many threads regarding promoting IR. I saw the Grammy site and went in and gave this comment. I sincerely hope I am not doing anything funny or wrong. Let me know, when I should take it easy!

Dear Grammy:
I am an ardent music lover. I might declare myself the finest connoisseur of music. All kinds of music have found a place in my mind and heart.
Western classical to Indian classical to Aborigine sounds have each a distinct personality and richness. My favorite music is from Michael Jackson, Dire Straits, ABBA, Andy Williams, Boney M, Carpenters, Simon & Garfunkel, Pet Shop Boys, Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky and many, many icons of the 70s and 80s.
However, the reason I am writing this is to bring to the joy of a good music lover what Indian film music has brought about in the last 50 years. Fascinating music that is highly structured and highly appealing to the heart and the soul. Greatest melodies that have yet to be shared with the rest of the world.
In this genre was born the greatest ever composer the world has yet to know: Illaiyaraja. This man is a musical freak in many sense of the term. He cannot be called a genius anymore, because he has surpassed all human limitations in musical thought. This man has composed scores for over 750 Indian films and has to his credit over 4000 songs of the greatest magical variety.
I want to ask you to go after this composer and help many music lovers around the world to enjoy this genre of music. Again, you have to tell me if such compositions could ever have been possible or ever be possible.
Hope to hear you, so that I may be of assistance.
With the best of wishes,
Warm regards,

Dear Sita Ram,
IT is an earnest attempt. In fact long back I started a thread named "Popularizing IR to Western masses"., ..and received little reception....(hmm....)

Sita Ram,
That was very well written. Probably you should give them a link to a page where IR has been introduced in a professional way. (like an official site?)
Guys, the reason I started this thread was to encourage and make all those who are active participants in the thread, "Let's together sponsor an IR album" and several similar ones like "Popularising IR to Western Masses" to believe that theirs is not an impossible task. With the composer himself open to the idea, there should be no stopping us fans to make all this a reality. I sincerely wish all this talk doesn't just get confined to message postings on the Net by the so-called fanatics of IR.

i have a prob reading this issue of vikatan can someone have it translated. As the comp i use (a public computation centre) cannot down load the tamil fonts.
Sitaram fantastic effort.Past couple of days i was actually thinking of contacting musicians like John williams,Eric clapton and some more of these real good/talented guys to collaborate with IR. I feel if we could get their attention then the link would take its own path. This is a fantastic starter. We also have to mention to these guys that he has composed the "un released" Symphony and has worked with Gold or some one like that(the conductor). Only this will make the raise their eyebrows.
I am not sure if you guys knew of this but if arr can work with MJ in MJ's forthcoming album ,surely IR can work with the greats of music.
If all of us can build more on sitaram's mail and send it to the rest of the guys, we would have done justice to ourselves...I guess So!!
I am not that good in my aangilam so pls team up guys
Thank you

The major advantage of IR is he is always unique and so not like ARR, who just take things like DEVA. So we don't popular music and with beats and other stuff, WE need songs like Anjali
