  Actually, I always wondered this. Why does most of the film songs (not all of them. SSBS are exceptions) have the standard patter set of 1 pallavi and 2 saranams. Who started this pattern in films and who decided to follow it so strictly that 90% of the film songs are like that. Is it beacse that they decided to have the songs for a length of 4.5-5 mins and hence have this pattern ? Cant they have a different kind of pattern for the songs ?

  To continue with the previous post, I wonder why they usually have both the saranams exactly identical in tune (again not all songs, most of them). Doesn't it sound good if they are of totally different tunes in the 2 saranams ? Again, can people identify such songs ?
