Why is Vaali not as successful as Kannadasan & Vairamuthu

Time and again, I have wondered why Vaali is not as successful as Kannadasan & Vairamuthu. If critics say his songs are not as catchy as the other two lyricists' I will not agree as he has lasted for more than 35 years now.

He has written some great songs for MGR which MGR used for his political entry. (Something similar to what VM has been doing for Rajanikanth for quite sometime now)

Go ahead give your views. Do u feel he has been unlucky or do u feel he deserves nothing more than what he is now?

  I second u shyam!!!! in fact had i been george lucas or dennis muren, i wud 've cast VM as darth maul instead of ray park in the phantom menace...

  hai , I just had a chance to Visit this Site ..It was amazing except for few things..
  
  And Regarding "VAALI" Why he was not successful as Kannadasan & Vairamuthu ? That Qn itself is Wrong..
  
  Till now Vaali's Pen Plays the Required Magic ..The main Reason behind the qn u asked is HE's not goin behind Popularity or Fame...He gives What is Required for the Film...
  
  And If u Ask Any one in the Film Industry They'll Say Vaali is aman who changes himself to various stages an pens his lyrics..
  
  For eg::When Shankar wanted a seq for Prabu-deva in Kaadalan...(MUQABALA) which was penned in 5 min's by vaali which VM couldnt ...
  
  But takin this sample dont misjudge His Poetic Writings...He's the man who uses simple lyrics so that even a Layman can understand that...
  
  When he started his career he wrote songs like Karchilai yendralum kandane unai maraven
  (non-film songs)
  
  I cannot give the Entire List I'll Mention few of his memorable ones whice were left in u'r list
  
  Sirikkindral indru sirikindral& kutrala Aruviyile kulithathu from NALLAVAN VAZHVAN
  
  Yengal veetu Pillai, Anbe VAA, nee,All songs
  Putham Puthia Puthagame from ARASAKATTALAI,PEtral thaan Pillaya all songs
  Naan Katru vanga ponen-Kalangarai Vilakkam
  
  The list continues and MGR himself has told that HE climbed his POLITICS LADDER with VAALI's PEN too...
  
  And for Shivaji,Gemini,Ravichandran,SSR etc the Other heroes were not left..

  This itself is an evidence how he was..
  
  
  And When Illayaraja Emerged Valli Penned lot of Songs for him too
  
  Like Kannan Oru kai kuzhandai, Kettele ange from Badrakaali
  
  YEn kanmani kaadali, ada da maamara kuyile-Sittukuruvi
  
  Nadhiyoram, Amma nee sumandha pillai,appane appane-Annai or AAlayam
  Naanaga naan illai thaye-Thoongathe tambi Thoongathe
  Ninaivo oru paravai, madai thirandhu,Poongatru un thol konja, Poongaviyam, Karpoora bommai ondru & 3 more songs in that film(keladi kanmani)
  
  Amma yendrazhaikatha uyirillaye,Inji Idupazhagi,POtri Padadi ponne, Maasaru ponne varuga,Idhayame Idhayame, pottu veitha,
  
  These all are Samples and he has written for all Md's like R.sudharsanam,K.V mahadevan, T.G.Lingappa,Sankar-ganesh,V.Kumar(Which was ultimate),S.V.venkatraman, T.R.Paapa,Kunnakudi vaidyanadhan,Gangai amaran,Sirpi,Deva,S.A.Rajkumar etc
  
  Particularly For REhman..His lyrics were Beautiful ..
  
  His work with rehman started with Uzhavan i which all songs were varieties...For eg Pennala Pennala OOdhapoo,Kangalil yenna eerama, Rakozhi 2 muzhichuruku
  
  Then chiku bukku rayilu,Parkathe in Gentle man
  
  Muqabala in KAADALan
  
  Then Came INDIAN in which 3 songs were Penned by him
  
  Akkada -Youthful
  Maya Machindra-Romantic
  Kappaleri Poyachu-Longingness
  Particularly in this song
  
  "Anname anname naan solli vandatha thendralum netru
  unnaye unnaye naan yenni vendhathai sonnadha poongatru
  undhan kaalin metti pol kooda nadapen
  undhan kannukku kanneer pol kaval irupen"
  
  how poetic and understandable isnt it...
  
  
  Then In Kaadal desam again he proved that his combination with ARR is very good..
  For eg
  c the starting of Anbe Anbe song
  
  Yenai kanavillaye netrodu unai thedi parkiren katrodu uyir odi ponadho unnodu anbe ......??
  c now nice it is and more over new -modern words like pager , cell phone etc he uses in his songs..
  KAllori chalai
  
  and Oh vennila iru vaanila(how nice the depiction of 2 friends loving a same girl)
  
  And Ultimately Kaadalar dinam..
  It ran BEcause of Music & songs only No doubt in that
  
  For eg Yenna Vilai Azhage.. is the master piece
  
  The Lyrics goes like this

  How fantastic is the Lyrics ..No more a poet can describe the Beauty of a Girl..
  
  Other Song was Roja Roja which was Ultimate for lyrics
  eg..."Nee vandhal maru kanam vidium yen vaaname "
  
  and his Writings continues
  
  And From Olden Period till now Letter songs were beautifully Penned by him only
  
  Anbulla Man vizhiye-from Kuzhandayum Deivamum
  Naan Anupuvadhu kaditham alla Ullam-Pesum deivam
  Kanmani anboda kaadalan -Guna
  
  And i can write more than this but no time ..So when ever i find time i'll mail u some details...
  
  SO finally Concluding Vaali has achieved the Pinnacle long back but he doesnt care Personally for his Publicity..
  
  And more over Avadara Purushan & Paandavar Boomi were also excellent Which was read many people and that Proved his Knowledge on Tamil..
  
  So VAALI IS ALWAYS AN EVERGREEN POET who shouldnt b compared with any fellow poet...

  it is wonder, we are discussing on 'Vs' but
  both Vs are not in same level. kavithai
  is the process to deliever words with
  lively hood / blood circulation / heart beatings
  not simply with tune and music (ho'ble with
  heavy metal bbbbb like rahmanji ). these two
  achieves only up to a limit, but Valli's is
  up in the sky, as he never repeats or negligible
  same vocabellary / same comparisition (uvamai) like v.muthu. not only that he never uses
  contradictory statements like (..tamilzhkku illai
  thattupadu ......in duet! (film name ) how crazy
  he is....? valli obeyed his collegue k.dasan
  bec's he accepts and worships a universal kavi...kavi arasu...
  where as little boy v.muthu accepts the award
  that he is superior than of kannadasan.
  Any one who loves tamil and its poetic never
  accepts such a think . this is enough to

  Hello for u'r kind information Vaali's kavithai are more simple than VM's
  HAve u ever read avadhara Purushan, Paandavar Boomi.. He has portrayed those great epics in simple at the same time beautiful tamil.
  
  NAtional award ..always there is a controversy abt NAtional award given to VM.
  Even the title Kaviperarasu is not given by any one he himself has given
  
  but vaali is not behind awards, popularity& title
  he thinks his writings,songs shld bring those ...
  
  So Dont Think VM alone can write kavithai etc..

  how do u compare vaali and VM. the latter tries to show off his talents by speaking in pure tamil, but for the poet or a lyricist, it needs more than that. Vm's songs gives as appearance that it is good but go deep into it, these are crazy. for eg, take uyire song in bombay, all lines will be predictable even before you read it.
  
  And while writing poems also he tries to use all complicated words to make people think that he is talented. it is not simple and conveying the message directly as was in Vaali's.
  
  One will not compare these two if s/he goes through Vaali's works. He is simply great and not comparable to any of today's poet and he is the ultimate.

  Vaali wasn't successful as when compared with KD and VM.this is because as vaali belongs to upper caste,which political people of tamilnadu will not digest.that's why he wasn't been recognised,eventhough he was NO:2 during KD period and been NO:1 after KD's demise
  but,he was not recognised because he belongs to the caste which is disliked by the dravidian parties

  Who said , Please don't compare vairamuthu and vaali...Comparing two poets doesn't make any sense at all....If you really want to compare them then give the same situation for the song and then ask Kannadasan,Vaali & Vairamuthu to write the lyrics :)...Then you can say who really has the "saraku" in them :)...and it is totally a wrong "notion" to say that vaali is not as sucessful as kanndasan or vairamuthu...
  
  I really donno on what basis people start such topics...
  
  Vaali has his own style of writing...I believe he was the best and is the best and is going to be the best too....
  
  we can call him the G-3 He is
  generic genius god :)...

  one should compare vaali with kannadasan and not with this petty poet vairamuthu, who had christined himself as kavi arasu, which is apt only for kannadasan.
