Hi guys,
I came to this forum by accident and boy was I hooked...
Hail Ilayaraja...!
Have you noticed the 2nd interlude from "Poongatru Pudidanadu" from Moonram Pirai (where the sound of train is superimposed... with the instrumental piece) being REUSED in "En Vaazhvile Varum Anbe Vaa" (Film: Tambikku Enda Ooru)?
I think it matches perfectly. And the reason behind this perhaps because of the following:
The first song "Poongatru" was replacesd in its Hindi version SADMA as "Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le" which in turn took the Tamil avatar as "En Vaazhvile" in Tambikku Enda Ooru".
Any other similar incident you know of?
Thanks
Neels

Neels, I agree with you I had this feeling for a long time and I really confirmed it last week by playing those songs back-to-back. Inspite of repetition that is a marvellous mixing by Raaja.
Another incident is 'Adi Aathadi... song's interlude gets used in the 'Va Va anbe Poojai undu...' song. I am referring to the continuous flute piece. Also in the same film, the prelude of Kalakalakkum Maniyosai resembles with another songs prelude which I am not able to remember now. There are couple of other incidents that strikes but I can't remember one of the songs in the pair. I will put them once I know the exact songs.

Just wondering! What was the reason that IR did not retain a hindi version of 'poongatru pudhithaanadhu' in Sadma? It was an incredible composition much ahead of its times. I felt it would have sounded equally good in hindi, given good lyrics.
But the other song 'aye zindagi', did that come first or did the thambikku entha ooru song come first? I thot IR composed the tamil version first and maybe used it in hindi Sadma at Balumahendra's behest? But as I said earlier, why change this song in the first place?
Actually some IR songs when used in hindi have a magical effect, song in question 'kaatre' from Johny, used as 'naina' in Aur ek prem kahani! Man what a song, even in hindi! Its a pity it was not promoted well, plus music really wasted this album!

Now with regard to the topic thread....I've read somewhere that taking off your interlude/ BG piece to create a new song was a very common habit of Shankar Jaikishen. I can remember ARR's background music in Roja, when Madhu meets Nazar for the first time in the army camp...that bg music was used as 'raakozhi rendum' in Uzhavan!
Again, the whole song in Pavitra 'azhagu nilave' was in the bg in Pudhiya Mugham, towards the end.

The clarinet prelude of `mAnguyilE, poonguyilE' is the tune for `thooLiyilE ada vandha'.
& I'm sure IR has repeated the first interlude of `nAnAga nAnillai thAyE' in another song...is it `poongAtru thirumbumA'?

The rum bum bum number in MMKR has its origin in tfm in Meendum kokila. The scene is where kamal fumbles in the court while arguing. Actually, the same kind of tune I heard it in an hindi film called Maa and kushbu was a child artist in that film. I have mentioned this before also.
ARR has done the usage of BGM to song not once but several times. Roja is a good example. Some BGMs in may madam have also come as songs. I don't remember it right now.
