Since the films are not doing well at theatres (for whatever reasons), the film production world has started blaming the TV channels and is up against Sun TV & others...(no interviews of artistes, no vimarsanam, no clippings of new movies etc. & some official bans on artistes; ref. Vijayakanth's interview in last week's kumudam)
We are all aware of the impact these channels had on TFM & its picturisation. (Please read BR's interview in last week's Kumudham). They've become more of musical videos (MTV kind) and no longer the emotional / story telling songs are attempted for quite sometime.
Will this current fight impact TFM? If so, in what way? Can we discuss...

It'd be nice if the following versions of music are separated out as an outcome of this fight:
-one group catering exclusively to musical albums & videos unrelated to films but for TV channels
-another group doing songs for films, i.e. for the stories & supporting the storyline only, very seriously
-yet another group focussing exclusively on BGMs & even producing 1.25 hour movies without songs...

eden,
In one way its a relief for me who hates to see the same songs again and again in count downs..Will mostly watch songs in SCV(mottai hits)..:-))
Surely the song value will become more..i mean people will eagerly listen to the latest songs in radio(Is ther any problem between TF and Radio??)..
And TV channels might switch to old songs..wow..i love to see it happen..but this weeks top ten movies and top ten songs had the latest clippings..i think they have put a restriction that it shud run only for 3 minutes and the producer of film "red" have given more than 3 minutes and he is facing some problem i read it somewhere..
but wont the producers get affected by the lack of advertisement of their films??

eden, I agree. The films will stop looking like musical videos if the songs don't get enough air-time anyway in TV.

Peeps,
What they did was OVERADVERTISING!!!:)) In thiraivanam kind of programs, they almost show all the important scenes in the movie!! It's good to have restriction but not to the extent of putting restriction for cinestars to act in TV serials. That's tooooooo much. In this connection, film standard should be improved rather than blaming tv serials for this.

bb, SCV is a channel (I suspect it belongs to the SunTV group) which airs TF songs all the time.
Saran, there may be different opinions about the restrictions. But why don't we discuss what impact it will have on film music?
Recently KTv showed kadal meengaL and I happened to watch the same while visiting a relative. When the scene of the song `mAnE, oru mangalachippi un thAyE, maNi muthena vandhavaL neeyE' came, there was a fight for controlling the remote...since there was a relatively big group watching... the 30's group wanted to watch the song...Sujatha, melodrama, story told through song etc while the teens wanted to change over to watch some dance dance (Australia, Europe, NZ) kind of a song on another channel...
I cannot call this `generation gap' but an impact of TV on our society - because there had been many generations enjoying melodious film songs unlike the current one of MTV culture! I would love these two to be separated...and what elders call kuppai can be banished to an MTV like channel...

peeps,
no need of doubt IT IS SUN TV's channel.
bb
basically SCV has a kind of monopoly in cable operations in major cities of Tamizh Nadu, esp. chennai.

peeps, what AIR is doing is too much nowadays...earlier only `vividh bharathi' had ads...now, every station has them, that too to such levels that one `also gets chance to hear TFM':-( for eg. AIR CBE has a 30 minute film song program from 7.30 to 8.00 AM and they play only 3 or 3.5 songs max...that too same songs repeated every alternate day, as if TFM has only 100 songs total...
No doubt, sat TVs gave music good exposure & probably boosted cassette sales etc. On the negative side, they killed the emotional balance on film songs and made them all look alike & commercial...I'm optimistic like BR that this HAS TO CHANGE...

While watching songs in TV is we concentrate on picturisation more(will watch the heroine:-),locations,dance etc etc..)..but wont concentrate much on music part..
In radio u can get involved much with music and feeling..and its better for your eyes and can do other works and hear music side by side..(Is my posting looking like a Radio Advertisement??:-))

peeps
i agree with you. in chennai, radio fm is going great. esp. in the evenings (4-5 pm) they broadcast some gems of ir.
reg. the topic, i wonder whether it will have any effect on tfm. it is not a simple matter of mtv culture.

mahabs, imagine a situation where the TV channels get chance (or allowed by movie makers' consortium / such org.) to telecast songs from movies at least one year old only...Do you think the new movie makers will then bother about songs appealing to `TV viewing audience' to increase the popularity of their films / music cassettes upon release? And don't you think private (means non-filmy) music / video albums will flourish through TV channels? I think so...

scv channel is providing a great relief to the general music lovers of tfm with several great hits of yesteryears. it is a good relief from the present day songs which mostly resembles westerern beats and does not provide any scope for good music

fan,
Yes u r right..they have some very rare hits..u cud have never seen that song before..but they are repetitive after somtime..if u watch for more than one month u can know what are the songs they have..but surely its a releif from other channels..because other channels telecast the old IR hits only in the night times and SCV shows it any time..
