AR can only give tunes which can be enjoyed universally......thats really great .....but as far as adding regional flavour he is ZERO ....
But IR is the only MD who can compose
typical tamil tune for tamil movie
typical telugu tune for telugu movie
typical malayalam tune for malayalam movie
typical kannada tune for kannada movie
typical hindi tune for hindi movie (Listen to Ae zindhagi gale lagaa....from SADMA ...its hardcore hindi tune)
That makes ppl feel IR is their composer .....that s really very very difficult ...........
IR is more great .........
There is one more layer in his composing...i am telugu guy...i observed......
He can compose according to hero....in tEelugu
He composed typical chiranjeevi tune for chiranjeevi..........
He composed typical ranjendra prasad tune for
rajendra prasad...........
He composed typical Balakrishna tune for balakrishna ...........
He composed typical mohan babu tune for mohan babu...........
and list goes on......
WHY TAKE FOR EXAMPLE THE SAD SONG IN EJAMAN.....
Nilave mugam kaattu ....its as if to describe rajnikanth grief only and cannot fit kamal or anybody.......
that is IR..........

Hmm, I've not heard any of IR's rgional tunes.. But i have heard a Sardarji in Mumbai hum a tamil tune! :)
I'm not trying to degrade IR in neways, coz i do respect him for the genius that he is. But I'm jus chippin my 2 cents and givin u somethin to chew on.. now which wud u consider a greater moral victory for a composer?
err.. my apologies to neone i might have offended. I'm not trying to spawn yet another IR-ARR war here.. was jus a lil intrigued by the thread.

"typical malayalam tune for malayalam movie"
I dont agree to that. His malayalam songs certainly has a tamil flavour. When you listen to them, you easily understand that it is by IR.
Regarding regional compositions, I believe Vidyasagar has done a great job. His malayalam and tamil songs are very much different, the only thing in common is the melody and sometimes the beats.

Hi friends,
i agree with Kiran. IR can give regional tunes.
not only that during the 80's he has mixed african beat in 'tholin mele' for the movie 'ninaivellam nithya'.

'His malayalam songs certainly has a tamil flavour'
-Guess Me, can you substantiate what do you mean by this statement?

Guess me,
"typical malayalam tune for malayalam movie"
I dont agree to that.
Pl. substantate your statemets. Have u listened to any? Just listen to - 'Poovazh Virinue' from Adarvam and the songs of 'Moonam Pakkam', 'Kaalapani' etc. Absolutely stunning and each of his malayalm film reviews have won him great accolades.

Guess Me,
Please go and hear 'Poonkaattinodum Kilikalodum' from 'Poomukhappadiyil Ninneyum Kaathu' or 'Aalolam Peelikkavadi theril' from 'Aalolam'. Even a hardcore IR fan like me couldnt identify the typical Raja stamp anywhere in these songs. They are purely malayalam oriented orchestra.
In Malayalam, he maynot be the greatest MD. But whatever he has done, is still remembered by majority of the malayalis. No one can forget Olangal, Aalolam, My dear Kutti.. etc etc

I understand that most of you didnt take my statement in the right way. I didnt say that all of IR's malayalam songs have tamil flavour. Especially those before 90s did have the malayalam touch. But then things have changed a lot. Check these songs
1. Chempoove from Kaalapani
2. Marakkudayal from Manasinakkare
3. Manavatti Penninte from Kaliyoonjal
4. Snehathin Poonchola from Pappayude Swantham Appoose
5. Thankakina ponkal from Friends
Only these 3 movies I remember. If you can list more malayalam movies by IR in and after 90s, I can give you other examples.
