Dumm Dumm Dumm over Tenaali..Its ridiculous choice..Just Porkalam and Swasame r enough to beat the whole of Dumm Dumm Dumm.

Karthik Raaja is correct choice.
Unnimenon mmm...ok..i thought it would go to shankar but fine unnimenon did good job in rhythm.
Vasundara...sorry it beats me..no comments..just a useless selection(IMHO) creeech, non-understandable pronounciation in all songs in that film esp. oh! i love u.
Pa. Vijay, i think for the algorithmic(neverthless trend-of-the-day) karupputhaan yenakku pudichcha kalaru lyric. But was good in other films. A fine selection.

Kartic Raja is a correct Selection because Not only Songs Over all Music For Dum Dum Dum Was Excellent..
Thenali Sucks..!! Rhythm was Good but Not Over all!!
Unnimenon .. It could hav been Unnikrishnan For Kaatre yendhan Vaasal
but Not bad... Menon has done justice to Nadhiye Song
Vasundhara Das!! Not a Right Choice..
Pa.Vijay : ya ok Not bad..
Upcoming lyricist with good Stuff.

i think karthikraja can be awarded the best MD
awarded just for the great BGM score he had
done in dum dum dum leave alone the songs.
i think his bgm in the film was of his father's
class and precision.

I think KR was the best choice!
All his songs were meaningful, Not only good sound! His BG score will be unimaginable to any other music director in the whole of india except for IR.
There were 3 nominees
YSR for Dheena
HJ for minale
KR for dum dum dum,
Peoples choice went for KR just for the changes in Desingu raja song!
Good luck KR! Keep the good music coming!

IMHO ..KR...is the only composer in India who has the talents of his dad and surely will oneday surpass him.His melodies are seamless and fresh. The continuity in DDD is just amazing, I am not sure if people actually recognized that. There is a lot to explore in his songs, for example his rythm keeps varying and follows the melody , unlike many MD who have a flat rythm throughout the song.
I did not know why he has to work on albums like Vanchinathan, etc.
I feel his potential is really untapped. There will be a day soon people will once again value melody over sound engineering. I feel he has the right balance between sound eng and intrumental value.
If you listen to sutrum Bhoomi you will notice how elegantly he brings life into the song with natural drums and electric guitar. The timing of the drum rolls makes your hand involuntarily play the drums...classic ...
You will have to listen very carefully to actaully recognize the many layers of intruments which he uses at any one given instance, this I feel was done only by IR....well glad one person emulating him.
Waiting for more good music from KR.

Music Fan's foll. observations are good
1) keeps his rhythm varying
2) many layers of instruments
KR did a good job in D3. But he has been guilty of plagiarisation in D3 (only a little bit) and before. He should avoid this in future.
KRs albums were plagued by bad recording. D3 was the first to have any clarity. Not only in music, even in mixing he is like his dad. If you listen carefully you will notice the instruments are behind the voice. But people like ARR or his own brother YSR mix differently. The voice will be behind the instruments.

Kiru...you are right ...he does seem to be giving music second prefernce...but the best part is like his dad has many instruments and variations that even after repeated listenings you will discover some new aspect in the song that you would not have noticed. Thats the pleasure I mostly derive after listening to IR's songs...there is something there that is not explicit but implicit...giving room for listner's to explore.
can I know what he plagarised in ddd...just for info....
I hope he does not in the future....
All the best KR

Unnimenon - good choice since the song dheem tha nanaa was well delivered. But I wonder how he scored over Shankar mahadevan in the songs "thaniye thannanthaniye" and "thom karuvil piranthom"..Atleast he is not a bad choice for the award.
Vasundhara das - I wonder if she got this award for singing or swinging (u know what) :-) But ya..if bhavadhaarini can get a national award she is worth more than this.
Is the song "un perai chonnaale" from D3 ? I guess it is. Very good number from KR.
pA.vijay got for that "all black" song ?

Music fan, and Kiru
It was nice to see your postings. I also feel the same about KR. Hope KR comes out with more good stuff...Kiru, It would be nice to read your comments about KR's works so far.
Kiru about the plagiarising in D3.Can I take a guess..is it the Krishna Krishna song u r talking about?

I think KR might be the most knowledgeable in WCM next to IR in India. His strenghth I would say, is in coming up with melodies. He is weak in coming out with stylish/fun numbers (a major strength of YSR). Major problem KR had all this time was like I said earlier the recording. He also seems to have a problem in orchestrating/arranging the melody into a song (melody+rhythm). I think the first time he did this right was D3 and that is why it is a major success. I hope he did this consciously and so can repeat this exercise successfully. Some might say this is like using a formula. Yeah..it is but as long as it is not very obvious it is okay (and who knows you can even get to be India's #1 MD :) ).
One thing I noticed in D3 was, he has used some songs as BGM (including vocals). But the song was used in pieces..pallavi fist and some time later the charanam etc.. I thought this was a smart idea.
(UV2 thanks for the encouragement).
Yes, Krishna Krishna . I think I posted about it in the copied songs thread. thEsingu rAjA song has a very small piece (10 or 15 sec) that was almost cut-and-pasted from Enya but it was well integrated with the song.

Whatever you people might say, Rhythm was surely the best ! The songs portray the 5 elements so aptly and there is so much energy in the songs.
Something fishy is going on.

I think KR deserves the best MD award of the prestigious Cinema Express Award. He is doing a lot on this issue:
"There will be a day soon people will once again value melody over sound engineering....
... he has the right balance between sound eng and intrumental value."
I love Desingu Raaja (as someone said, new instruments are being discovered upon repeated listening) and Sutrum Boomi (real acoustics, upcoming trend in Western albums too!). The utmost renderation is the Ragasihamai song.
What pulls him back is the lack of 'stylish and fun song'. I think KR tried it only in Ullasam. Apart from this, he need not change his hairstyle to be the TFM gravity. Bravo KR!

Sometimes, the Award Recipients are not always the first choice. There are alot of internal politics involved. For instance, most award presenters make it a point to award only those who are going to be present, esp for top awards. Though some like Raghuvaran and Simran were not present, they sent their family in their place. Other than that, Ajith's cancellation was also a last minute thing, or so it sounded like.
So maybe Indian Express may have wanted to present the awards to others who could not be present.
Even if my above theory is incorrect, perhaps they just want to give awards to upcoming MDs rather than seasoned ones in order to give them encouragement. If you watched the show, there was alot of emphasis on the awards giving the artistes encouragement and support, throughout the event. And I'm sure KR can do more wit the award than the already well decorated ARR.

even enemies of music willnot do like this.
vasundara das singing in tfm itself is a disgrace! she is getting the best singer award. myfoot.
Bombay jaishree could have been nominated for barathi or minnale
Unni menon's voice has no orginality or life.
he scored over Harish raghavendar in "NIrpadhuvey" or Madhu Balakrishnan for 'Edhilum engu" I think people have lost their ears for good music.
even KR's nomination in DUM.....is not entirely acceptable though he has shown some class in his score.
God save TFM. next year Sukwinder, Kumar sanu, sadhna sargam and Udit narayan will get nominated.
