  Song: Pongiyathe Kaathal Vellum (Manukkul Vairam)
  Reason: Superb orchestration and superb usage of Hindolam raagam
  
  Song: Maanitha Sevai & Nee Ondru Thaa En (Unnal Mudiyum Thambi)
  Reason: KJ Yesudas, and sounds like authentic Karnatik music, undisturbed by filmi conventions
  
  Song: Sithagathi Pookkale, Kaattule Kamban & Ennavendru Solvathammaa (Rajakumaran)
  Reason: The above songs obviously have modern orchestration, yet are brilliant in conveying light, romantic, and even touching moods
  
  Song: Thaamtha Theemtha Aadum Ullam Paadum (Pagalil Oru Iravu)
  Reason: Melody is extremely infectious (handling of raagas S'Saveri/Mohanam in Karnatik fashion), and the background music style totally contradicts that of the singing (the rhythm sounds like that used in 'Geetham Sangeetham' in Kokkarakko).
  
  Song: Nilavu Vanthathu (Endrum Anbudan)
  Reason: Hamsadhwani actually sounds touching
  
  Song: April Mayile (Idhayam)
  Reason: Fast-paced and great singing by IR.
  
  I would also like to add some songs in other languages.
  
  Song: Dheep Jalaaye Jo Geeton (Kalakaar- Hindi)
  Reason: No better way to express melancholy
  
  Song: Ksheera Poovukkal (Dhanam- Malayalam)
  Reason: An incredibly sweet and nostalgic tune in raagam Yamuna Kalyani.
  
  Song: Dheepam Kayyil (Neelakadambu- Malayalam)
  Reason: Again, unbelievably sweet and nostalgic song.
  
  Song: Kadalaraiyilla (Kannoor- Malayalam)
  Reason: Must hear it to believe it!
  
  Song: Aakaasamulo (Swarna Kamalam- Telugu)
  Reason: extremely majestic song in Brindhavana Saranga raagam
  
  Song: Manasuna Pallikina (Sankeertana- Telugu)
  Reason: Can listen to it again and again nonstop for the great melody
