we can find many of the classical, kind of kutchery songs, by IR has the second charanam turning into fast numbers (eg. nee pourNami, vAedham nee).
can we call them as tempO changes?
if im not wrong scale change (crudely) means change of raaga of the song, and i don't think in the above-mentioned examples raaga of the song changes. so i felt it could be tempO change.

The "yelamarak kaattukulla" song from Nadodi Thendral, if I remember right, picks up on tempo in the second charanam from the second interlude onwards and finishes at a super fast pace.
Hamma Hamma - scale change, not the tempo.

IR has done a lot of "tempo songs" - One song that comes to my mind is
"Vaadi en Kappa Kizhange" - I think this is a
classic and may be one of the first in TFM
Unfortunately, since in this song and many others
IR implements tempo change and other western
elements blend into indian/folk, common listeners
fail to notice and appreciate the western elements
blended in.
On the other hand when some songs are composed with an intention to create "look alikes" of MTV/western pop songs, they are recongnized as
"aha, western song with tempo change"...
In fact, the opposite should be true..it takes more creativity to blend western elements in and
make it look seamless than compose a tamil song
in English stereotyping one of the zillions of pop songs out there...
My 2 Cents....

Tempo Rate of speed or pace of music.
Scale A series of tones or pitches in ascending
or descending order.

Good example for Tempo change :Alai paayuthe song
Scale change: I guess , oru deivam thantha poove from kannathil muthamittal has Scale change.

Also take Poove semboove song, Song oru pacela irukum interludes in different pace. This could be another example for tempo change.

Another example for scale change:Smaiyaai song. Towards the end, they sing Smaiyaai in different scale.

so then does my two examples ("the above-mentioned examples") fall under tempo change category?

Another one...
Thaniye Thannanthaniye from Rhythm
Here it is not the tempo of the singing that changes. The singing and the interludes have different tempo.
