Most of ARRs songs are classical based as compared to that of IRs. This makes ARRs music more melodious than IR. If you consider the ratio of melodious music that ARR has scored to that of IR, i would say ARRs is more. I mean the ratio, in terms of number IR might be more because he has been scoring all this long. ARR has introduced the concept of fusion music which IR has never even thought of till early 90s.

Karthik,
> ARRs music more melodious than IR
Have you heard any of IR's late 70s and early 80s songs? If so, you wouldn't have made the above statement. Have you heard "Germanyin senthaen malarae", "kanmaniyae kaadhal enbadhu", "ore naaL", etc? Apparently not. Anyway, this topic has been discussed a lot. I guess you are new to this forum. Hearty welcome. Please check for similar topics in the archives.

ARR songs are more karnatic oriented and clear attempt to be melodius, as against IR who tries to imitate Gramiya type songs. IR songs are good only for the first 5 years of his career.

Raja thought about fusion only in 90s? Absolute trash of a statement! The bench mark of fusion - `Panivilum Malarvanam' is a song from early eighties. If you were not born then, Mr Karthick, kindly try to search for the songs of Ninaivellam Nithya in the net or get hold of them from any of your friends, and PLEASE LISTEN. You'll be in a much better position to judge any music at all, let alone music of Raja!
And about this `Classical' business of IR, please enquire with two experts who are`ARR-fans-too'- Composer Mr Srikanth and Raga analyst Ms Geetha

Clarification needed: When you write `Classical' what does it mean -Carnatic or Hindustani or WC?

I basically am inclined to ARR's music.
I do not know who is more melodious..(i think this is relative)
But IR surely has a better sense when it comes to classical music. ARR is nowhere near.

IR is the king of Western Classical, ARR has yet not touched it well. Old MDs ruled Carnatic and IR really brought it to the 'common' people.

Music will not live here, ethe velai ya pochu,
IR has given great score, so is ARR or anyone for that matter,
Old Md's ruled in Carnatic --- thats all you know.
RaviJi, how about putting 144 on these negative threads for sometime, bore adikuthu sir.

Welcome to TFM!! As you are new to the forum, I can just welcome you to this forum....
Your query just reveals your ignorance. Sorry about that...Better spend some time browsing through the archives...
As far as melodic tunes are concerned, it might be worth it for you to at least listen to 10 or even 1 of the 215 melodies in www.members.tripod.com/ilayaraaja
or
www.members.tripod.com/Ilaiyaraaja
ARR is commercially better off than Raaja, presently. Period. IR is always better off than ARR as far as innovations, prolific nature and technicalities are concerned.
This is a proven fact and as remarked by TN Shibu.. this is a funny query.....

Guys, I have been a silent spectator to all your comments, I think it is really high time to intervene with my views. If you guys see my statement you would see that I have mentioned the word 'RATIO'. More of ARRs songs are based on classical than that of IR. I agree IR too has given a lot of classical hits but if you compare them to masala songs that he has given probably the later would be more. As you guys say, listen to this song of IR, listen to that is an clear evidence of how many classical based songs has IR scored, got my message loud and clear ? ATLEAT, I repeat ATLEAT one song from ARRs each movie is classical based which adds to its melody. By classical here, i mean Karnatic. Can you guys gaurantee the same with IR ????????

karthick,
Pl. understand the following:
1. just because a song is not based in carnatic music it does'nt mean that it cannot be melodious.
proof: countless IR songs like 'uravugal thodarkathai'.
2. just because a song based in carnatic music
is melodious to hear, it does'nt mean that the composer is GREAT.
proof: deva's 'priya oh priya' is melodious more due to the beauty of mohanam than due to his ability.
3. for the same reason, just because ARR has one
or two melodious songs in all of his films, that does not make him great.because, sadly the other songs are deplorable and at the least forgettable-- IMO:))
4. and just because clueless ARR fans start topics like these, it does'nt make ARR look good, it only proves his fans ignorance.

Karthick,
Please listen or atleast give an effort to go through all the songs highlighted in Ramaswamy Gireesan's page with the various Classical raagas which IR has used all these years.
It is pathetic to read such baseless argument starting a new thread for which unfortunately there are so many follow ups (including mine!)

It is highly improper to compare a guy who takes few months to compare a tune to a great person who has more than 700 films to his credit. It is basically satellite TV and also the arrogance of the later which helped the former. Or else I see ARR as a Ctrl C and Ctrl V MD. I feel even ARR can not be compared with Deva. If at all you guys wish to compare ARR, then compare him with Sirpi, SAR or someone of that capacity. ARR is a 'Recycle' king.

Here is 5 reasons why satellite TV is best!
1. It offers digital transmission
2. It offers high quality pictures
3. It has the flexibility of transmitting more channel, so that an user has choice of chosing a channel
4. It offers the best sound in the world, known as Dolby Digital.
Did someone say Satellite TV is bad?
