Appa, Finally a thread where no IR-ARR fight can come :-)))
I haven't heard much of the Duos given here except our mellisai mannarkaL and innisai ventharkaL., Out of these two, I needn't say who is best :-)

I am willing to discuss who is the best duo in tamil films. India Music fan still hasn't found a forum to discuss his hindi music interests, I guess !!

Why don't you want to discuss hindi film duos. Let's discuss it because it is an interesting discussion to find out people's opinions and thoughts as well as look at the styles of these MD's.

IMF i guess why kiru is reluctant to discuss Hindi duo..
Though the topic has V-R and S-G in it the discussion will take a turn to argue about whether S-J, L-P, K-A are superior or inferior to TFM MDs(or for the sake of the thread, MD duos). Then someone will point out virtues of S-J, L-P, K-A and in that someother will find some fault and that will lead to a rebutal and a reply and so on. Whereas this is newtfmpage, its thread should have the main topic about TFM and for quoting other Language FM can be used.
However this comparison is really good to discuss, but not here. Why don't we do it in "indian films" Section in www.forumhub.com?

Naga,
Yes You are correct. But En Iniya Pon Nilave Padam Cassette relase aacha? oru recording shop-il list paarthean. athil oru paatil LRE per irundthathu ninaivirku varukirathu. Do anyone have EIPN songs?
In case of "aalaalaGanda", the composer was ARR and MSV was the singer. MSV had sung in V.Kumar, IR, GA and ARR's music. IR has sung in MSV's music also. (I don't remember the movie name. R.Sundarajan Movie. Sivakumar and Saritha acted).
We can compare "aalalaganda" with those songs only.
But I am really interested to listen "ARR-MSV and ARR-IR" combined music. (Will It Happen?)There is no mistake in this. Don't start arguements.

G.R.,
I don't have the cassette of EIPN (Enna oru surukkam :-) But I think the movie is released, I remember seeing an advertisement in a old news paper. Probably the cassette was released looooooooooooooooooooooong back itself - when they (MSV - IR - Vairamuthu (Lyrics)) finished composing the songs ? It should be really old.
I agree to you about 'Aaalalaganda' as well, I just thought that would start an discussion like can ARR - MSV work together or something similar to that.,
IR sang for MSV in movie 'Sugamaana RagangaL' - you can read a review of that movie here - http://thirai.ambalam.com/oldfilm/2000/June/oldfilm04_13.html - see what vikatan says about THAT song ;-)
One more thing,
Do you guys know Deva - MSV combo has composed music for a movie ? I don't remember its name, But antha padaththooda audio cassettes - 3 copies - are there in Bangalore Music World for the past 6 months :-)
Some other tamil MD Duos are -
Sabesh-MuraLi (First album - 1000 Poy Solli - not yet released :-),
AaGoSh (Three guys),
Shankar - Leslie (First Album - AaaLavanthaan - Not Released)

Ok, i think SJ and LP are the best duos India has seen. Not to take anything away from the other duos such as V-R or R-N, but these two have had so many hits that it is unimaginable to count them up. Both their orchestra's were grand and both had alot of variety and both were complete musical duos. Both have given excellent songs to all singers that have sung for them and both of them are legends. Now what do you guys think ???.

OK IMF since you asked im telling my choice...
in Hindi S-J and in Tamizh V-R are the best duos.
So my vote is for S-J and V-R pairs. IMO and In my taste it is only these two duos who had better stuff (viz versatality, hits, melodies, creativity) when compared to others duos.
But since being a tamizh and my native song goes very well easily with me V-R get a slight edge over even S-J. This has nothing logical in it. Its because what do we say a kind of favouritism. But this is no way to undermine the skills of S-J.
Only after VR SJ other duos come to my mind. IMHO others might have slight edge over these duos in one or two fields but as far overall rating and my liking is concerned it is VR and SJ who are the best duos of IFM (here IFM has a loose sense, i considered only TFM and HFM).
BTW
http://www.forumhub.com/indfilms is the link that i was suggesting.

To Kupps,
I agree with you that SJ is probably the best that HFM has seen. In TFM it is probably VR. In terms of hit songs, versatality, compositions, variety i think these two stand out. But one cannot forget the contribution made by LP to HFM. They have also had many hits and their music was good as well. although i agree with you on SJ, who do you think had the best movie to hits ratio in their career, SJ or LP. Give me your opinion and facts. Also, you mentioned that other duos might have an edge in one or two departments over these duos. Who are they ??. I don't think any duo had an edge over these two duos. Can you tell me what you mean by that ??.
Thanks

Shankar-Ganesh's some songs throughout the 70s and 80s were as sensitively made as are by any other Tamil composer. Deserving special appreciation are many impeccable solos rendered by Balasubramaniam in that period.
Is not it that solos composed by SG were much superior to the duets?

if im not wrong MSV-IR did four movies.
the films are:
1) mella thirandhadhu kadhavu
2) senthamizh paattu
3) kaNmani (i have my doubt but included this as 3rd movie by the duo)
4) The fourth one is for balu mahendra, forgot the movie name.

but seriously, i think SJaikisan gave some superb songs, some noisy but very energetic. MSV-TKR was indeed great but i place them second, and MSV by himself is always the king-above duos and all. SG was really magical but could've done without copying songs. LP was good but tunes seemed stuck together. KA underestimated and really great. Shiv-Hari was interesting - Chandni songs. Rajan-Nagendra wish did more in Tamil. MSV_IR was IR's tribute to MSV so can't call a duo, senthamizh pattu had only one great number - raathiri pozhudhu.

Certainly!
Even the excellent ones from them got overshadowed by the defamation they got.
