Singers Scoring Music for films ....

All times in EST +10:30 for IST.

Many play back singers like SPB, Ghantasala, KJY, Kishore Kumar, A.M.Rajah, P.B.Srinivas,S.janaki.

while SPB apparently scored music for 80 films, but AFAIK, his Tamil composition like Sikaram/ Thuddikum Karanghal had very good songs, were they hit, I am yet see any KJY composition in Tamil Music, But I have heard Ghantasala's amazing "Maaya bhazar", & melodious A.M.Rajah's "theen nilavu". But PBS scored music for any Tamil films??, I also know that S.Janki scored music for one Tamil film, but can not recall it, can some body pls provide me list films, where the music was composed by singers?

  P Susheela, I have heard composes devotionals these days. Asha composed a pop album "salaaamt salaamat" recently. SPBs,Ghantasala's and AMR's credentials as an MD are well established.
  
  Kishore had done music for the film "jhumroo" and "door gagan ki chhaon mein". he has composed the famous bengali song "piyotoma ki likhi tomai" rendered by LM. LM herself has composed film scores in her mother tongue, besides a few Bengali songs.

  CS Jeyaraman composed music for 4 movies. One of
  them is raththak kaNNeer. (Interestingly, MSV/TKR
  did the background music for this movie.)
  
  TMS composed music for a movie named balap pareetchai.
  (Some people wrongly think that he did the music for
  kallum kaniyaagum. The songs for that movie were
  composed by MSV. TMS & ALR produced and acted in
  that movie and lost a lot of money.)
  
  Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi did music for dharisanam
  and Tiger Thathachari.
  
  P Bhanumathi did music for paththu maadha bandham.

  Samanthi Poo starred Sivakumar & Shoba. The story was a tragedy, with the heroine dying in the end. Shoba committed suicide around this time and they showed her funeral as part of the movie!
  
  The songs in this movie was very IRish.

  AFAIK S.Janaki composed music for only one movie in Telugu - "Mouna Poraatam" *ing Yamuna. This must be in the mid to late 80s..

  What about IR, ARR, SAR, Deva, Sirpi, Vidhyasagar, KR, YSR, Bhavatharini... the only exceptions seem to be Adithyan and HJ...

  AM Raja - Prob the best singer turned MD.(If you leave out BMK who did a great job in both Shankaracharya and Ramanuja;he did very few films)
  
  Next would be Ghantasala -Maya Bazar
  
  SPB s ventures were pathetic.Thudikkum Karangal,Mayuri ..,I would prefer Chandrabose or SG.Ketpar pechai keatu MD ana ..
  
  Balaparitchai - Except for the "Mapillai Sarukku Vazthukkal" i cannot recall an other song.TMS understood his limitations.But most of his bakthi paadalgal like "Azahgendra sollukku","Pachai kalai mayil" were his own compositions.
  
  Samanthi poo- IR ish? To me sounded very GKV ish.
  "Malai velai " by SPB was ok.
  MV s "Aagayam bhimi" was a "Pon Mana thedi" clone.
  Kadavula nenachu- was a "Manamathan banatha" clone.(this was an MSV song from Savithri)
  
  Sreenivas is yet to get out of ARR hangover..it is difficult too!

  Certainly not.The songs were indeed poor compositions.
  
  Santhanam poosa, atbest could become a IR- rejected tune.In almost all the songs the orchestra arrangement was immature.
  
  Ramki, we are comparing it with AMR s Then nilavu and Ghantasala s Maya Bazar.
  
  Megam Mundhanai - SPB VJ Holi song sounds a Hindi import to the last note
  Valibam vaadhatha - DD/AIR Mellisai padal.Rajini in a bike -should atleast reach a "Nenje un Aasai enna- TL Maharajan-Naan Poota Saval" Level.
  
  Above all a gross injustice to a Sridhar movie
  
  Vannam konda- Sigaram-Tune alone gets a pass mark and as usual messes up with the arrangement.

  I agree that the music matched the movie to the hilt.But i meant the REAL SRIDHAR MOVIES before "Urimai Kural"
  
  It was a case of Sridhar doing injustice to his own reputation.No other fall in the filmdom could match that of Sridhar s.

  I think Sridhar had the longest innings in Tamil Film industry. Sridhar was remarkable in that he started as screenplay dialogue writer who evolved into a good director. From kalyana parisu- heavy Melodrama to romantic stuff in Then nilavu, from the ultimate comedy trip in kadhalikka neramillai ,the tryst with supernatural in nenjam Marapadhillai, the experimental nenjil or AAlayam ,to tackling frustration of unemployment in "nenjirukkum varai. he tried several subjects & came out winner. After a tiff with Sivaji during the making of "hero 72" (later released as(vaira nenjam) he completed Urimai Kural with MGR which proved to be a super dupper hit.he made an actress out of Bharati & Latha

  of course he lost out later but that was much later . his last big hit was"thenralle ennai thodu". aalaya deepam was okay dokey. he wa spersuaded to make one more comeback in " thanthuvitten ennai" stg today's hotshot Vikram. the movie was ok but bombed. what i am trying to say is that CVS stayed on fore the better part of twenty five years in the red before slipping into black. he changed with time & kept pace with Bhim singh,Balachander,may be upto Barathi raaja before lagging behind.
  if CVs had given Kathalikka neramillai alone & nothing else he will still be part of our folklore.

  Sorry Raghu,
  I got carried away about Sridhar.
  So coming back to your topic Dharaburam Sunderajan has composed the songs for a much forgotten TRRamanna thriller(?) Neechal Kulam. Sunderrajan in case you didn't know sung for many of VT Arasu- Sulamangalm combo movies. His best remembered no is " Unakkaga Vaa Naan Unakkaga vAA" from Selvam. a good number. Hope I've redeemed myself

  Some additions/corrections:
  
  Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi also did music for "PiLLayar". Also the original music for the song "Thiruparan Kundrathil nee sirithal muruga" was of SR's. KVM has taken permission fromhera nd used it. In fact SR has sung that in the movie "Kandan karunai" along with PS.
  
  P Bhanumathi did not score music for paththu maadha bandham. It was by Shankar ganesh. P. Bhanumathi scored music for "Ippadiyum oru peN".

  Another singer called ML Srikanth scored music for "Ninaipadhu niraiverum". There was a beautiful duet by MLS with VJ

  Thirparan kundrathil was by Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan and not Soolamangalam.
  
  MLs was MSV s assistant.So he was an MD who sang..there is a separate thread where the fight is on.
  
  
  Vengayam was Dharapuram the MD for Nawab Narkali which has the famous "Chappathi chappathithan" by ALR?

  Do u remember the song "Raagamum athan thaazhamum nayagin un pughazh paada", the song was composed & sung by SPB, but i don't think it was composed for any film, am I right?
