tamil film music started with classical singers like MLV, Vasantha Kokilam, MS, GNB, et al and over a period of time was dominated by singers who were not formally trained in classical music. are we seeing a resurgence of the origin now? bombay jayasree, unnikrishnan, nithyasree and a horde of singers are making waves. is this a beginning of a trend or is it a fad?

Choosing Classical Singers for TFM is just a
marketing thing.
The Pressure on MDs to make news worthy & Money-making music is unimaginable.
So, Occassionally they do get Carnatic singers to
sing (What happens next is , it immediately becomes a News and adds some marketability).
I really do not think their choice
is because of the complexity of the song.
Other Than UK,BJ and NS, no other Classical singer
has made an entry (also except UK nobody really made any impact) in the recent years. Whereas dime-a-dozen untrained(formally) singers have been
singing away to glory.
So it is not really TFM is returning to the classical singers' folds. Whoever makes the song tick is in!
Be it Bombay Jayashree or Suresh -I cannot stand him - Peters!

Most of the prominent singers in TFM are classically trained. They are perfectly capable of singing carnatic songs. MD's introduce carnatic singers just for the attention it brings.

I seriously feel that the seeking of classical singers to tfm by MD's is in urge for new voices to give a different effect for the song.I hope you will agree that Nithyasree's kannodu in Jeans gave that song a focus. Also,a certain standard has been
added to the song by her by adding her own kalpana
swaras.

I think Nithu should not spoil her image by singing all types of cine songs. She must select the songs such that it should not create a bad impression on her on any aspect. It's not my advice to her. It's my request.

Lk, in any case she's not singing much...needed by ARR for a few numbers to feel different...and then probably dumped...
