Can we discuss about the talented artists used by the MDs and the songs where they exposed their talents?
Recently I happened to see the DVD of ARR in USA concert. I was totally fascinated by 'Drums Sivamani'. His performance was so good.
Also I heared that A.R.R was the keyboard player for the 'breath-taking' theme number in Punnagai Mannan. Is that right?
I guess, ARR used 'Kadhri Gopalnath' for SAX in 'Duet'. By the way, who played the drums for the 'Raja' song in Agni Natchathirum and who played Guitar for the Ilayanila song in 'Payanangal Mudivathillai?
Pour your comments, folks..!

IR himself played guitar in ilaya nila pozhigirathu-Payangal mudivathillai. yes ARR synthesised for punnagai mannan. he also worked in that film. otherwise, viji samuel is the lead player for IR.
Kadri played a vital role in success of Duet. ARR himself admired him playing.
Harriss jayaraj played keys for ARR from Ratchagan to Kandukonden for four years.
ARR's fav guitar artists are kabuli(bass), prassana(lead), keith peters(bass). and ofcourse percussions for sivamani...
sivamani played drums for many raaja songs..onme of my fav is..poopotta thavani- kaaki chattai, and pani vizhum iravil- mouna raagam.

sivamani did'nt play much for raaja. purushothaman was the one who was known for his aesthetic style of playing and he was an real asset to raaja on the percussion side.his manuel playing of drums was a feast to watch.the way he played in raaja's live shows were unforgotable.listen to ''kannan vanthu padugiran'' from irattai vaal kuruvi.viji manuel the key board player, sadhanandam[son of old music director r. sudharsanam]who plays the lead guitar, sashi who plays bass guitar, arun mozhi who plays the flute are the people behind raaja to give life to his orchestration.needless to mention v.s.narasimhan's solo violin pieces in raaja's master pieces.

Needless to say about govardhanam for KVM, Joseph Krishna for MSV...
btw one person was named to be the master behind orchestration and other major role for T.Rajender especially for the films like Oruthalai raagam, uyiruLLavarai usha etc., couldn't remember his name.

It is AA RAJ

on: Fri Mar 8 03:24:29 EST 2002
AA Raj was probably one, but Joseph Krishna was the man behind TR...they had a anumalik-Ranjit barto type relation...and u know who contributes more and who takes the credit :-)
AA Raj himself is a composer....He gave a beautiful number "poovE...nee yAr solli, yArukkAga malarginrAi...ivaL paruva thOttathil oru malar" sung by MV...Brilliant number...but he too was a one movie (one song ?) wonder.

Long time back, I remember reading that a drummer of IR's team sang 'Anne Anne' song in the film 'Kozhi Koovudhu'. Was it Purushothaman?
Chorus singer (some times a part of the lead) Ganga is also doing good in ARR's group.
Is Guitar Prasanna, a full time with ARR?

on: Fri Mar 8 08:45:05 EST 2002
why, for that matter, even Arunmozhi was basically a flute player, who was identified and used as singer by IR. [In fact, Arunmozhi sang the "track" for "mannil indha kaadhal" in "keladi kanmani", and received personal compliments from SPB for that.]

guitar prasanna is an established jazz-carnatic musician in his own right. I do not think it is fair to him to use words like 'full time' with regards to his appearance in ARR songs.

great thread. good to give credit to the guys in the background.
arunmozhi was an exceptional flautist. I think he was self-learnt. during a recording with hariprasad chaurasia, arunmozhi played the flute bit. Raaja, without looking up, thought that it was HC and said something in hindi. HC later complimented Arunmozhi and said that his style was similar to HC's style.

I read in an interview (of ARR) that he had also assisted T.Rajendar and SA Rajkumar during his early days.
IR has also played for R.Sekar (ARR's father) during his earlier days.

Last year when I was composing and recording my songs in AVM studio, I heared some one tell that Drums Sivamani doesn't use any kind of electronic instruments.
Is that true?

IR had an excellent violinist Narasimhan. He is a genious.

I have heard that Sivamani uses acoustic as well
as electronic percussion instruments. He trained himself in variety of percussion instruments of the world. Example: African drums.

He is Dr.Samuel.He heads the Madras WCM forum. He also makes brief appearance in Hey!Ram! in the song "Ramar Analum".
I thought L.Vaidyanathan was behind TRajendar during Mythili Ennai Kathali days.Songs like
"Vaigai Karai katre nillu","Moongilele" and "Azhkadlil"(Ragam thedum pallavi) will have LV s Ezahavathu Manithan style.
Instrument Arrangement of Vaigai Karai and Kakkai chiraginele look very similar(NOT THE TUNE)

ilayaraja did play for ilaya nila but that version was never released. it was chandrasekar who played lead for that song. other than ilaya nila and a few mores songs, mr. sadhanandhan (son of old music director sudarsanam) has played lead guitar for ilayaraja
