Singer and Contracts

I was trying to get some singers (Chitra,Anuradha Sreeram, Alka, Sadana Sargam) to sing in my album and they told me they can't because they are under a contract with some company and they can sing only in Movies and not for private albums.

But Sujatha, Harini, Swarnalatha are ok in singing for private albums.

contract ?? any idea about this ????
