I believe that YSR is the best upcoming MD at this time after ARR and IR, but it seems that people are not wanting to accept this and are insistant on bringing him down. We have people who don't want to believe that there is an MD to be as great as ARR or IR for TFM, and we aslo have those who don't want to accept him for the fact that he is the son or IR.
YSR has been the only MD of late to produce quality songs consistently which are hits in both sales and commercial value.
More big name directors are approaching YSR to do their movies now and it's about time that the TFM audience accepted that he will be a predominant feature of TFM for many years to come.

Madhav, His choice of movies is bad, he needs to go for good banners. Being young, he is trying to make a lot of money... I was shocked to see the Hero's face from Malli Malli Choodalani!!!

Vimal I don't think YSR is earning a lot of money. He is earning just 23 lakhs per film which is much less of a demand than other MD's!
Maybe the new batch of films which he is signed to will be better. He is doing Ajith's Thiruda, Lovers, Enna Solla Pogirai and also Coumbus with big name directors, producers and actors

Also to back up my point that people don't want to accept his music because he is IR's son, take a look at the thread started by Hariharan called "Famous MD's Kids"

It is quite sad to see this occurence. Also because YSR is one of the brightest stars in TFM currently. Even his Thulluvadho Ilamai has sold 3 lakh copies till date. His Dheena, Poovellam Kettupar and Nandha were super smash hits, and Unakkaga Ellam Unakkaga,Rishi and Manathai Thirudi Vittai were smash hits.
I think he is somebody to watch out for in the future.
Other MD's beware.

They were hits acepted..(even some in them are debatable) but calling them as smash hits is too much.
IMO, TT is till date one and only best after PK.
But, TT didn't hit people's heart till now, but it will eventually when the film releases.
Saw it's promos and I am eager to see the film.
Seem's to be a very down to earth teen age subject.

I saw the trailers for TI and the picturisation seems ok. Nothing special in contrast to YSR's excellent music. However I am sure that the cassete sales will pass 3 lakhs easily once the movie has been released. The film is about youngsters aged between 13 and 15 and it explains the notion that whether a child turns out good or bad is based solely on the family and not the community.
I hope YSR releases many more hit albums for many more years to come.

Madhav,
From what I have read in the past, I can see that you are very much a fan of YSR. But really, what is his due credit? He has not created any masterpiece, has he? If he comes up with an album equal to the many hits that his father or ARR came up with, then he would get the much needed credit. As it is, he has not come up with a single album that has that potential. Sure, he has come with good songs, some good albums but nothing exceptional. I believe that under the situation, he is getting the recognition that anyone slowly climbing up the popularity chart would get. Some good banners and others:-). He still has a long way to go. Personally, I have liked at least one song in most of his albums...but except for TI where he was able to come up with something slightly different, there was nothing to place him above other MD's like Vidhyasagar and Harris.
My favourite numbers so far:
Most of TI
Manathai thirudivittai song
Poovellaam Kettupaar
Eera nila
BTW, Did he do Allithantha vaanam? There was a folk song in that movie that has become quite popular, but I am not sure who's music it was...

aruvi,
Harris is above YSR ? In what aspect ? I feel its an insult to YSR if you make one such statement,
Except 'Vaseegara', show me one good - un inspired song of Harris and I will agree to you - Otherwise he is a costly Deva and nothing else,
VidyaSagar is doing better than YSR - I agree to that !

NagaS, I donno whos better between YSR and HJ, but Venmathi is a pretty good number, and even other songs in that album are decent too, with flashes here and there in each song. Theres another of my fav (Gulmohar), but it may not classify to ur good-uninspired song. But thats a pretty decent song.

Aruvi, I can answer this question for you. YSR produced an album which could be compared to an ARR album in TI, as well as PK. I don't believe that HJ even warrants being mentioned here as he is simply a remixer. There is not a single song of his that has not shown inspiration from ARR and even Vaseegara is based on a Christain Hymn.
YSR has released some great songs and shows originalty an innovation in all of them. We can see this from his recent Nandha, TI and MTV.
I have all the belief that YSR is the new star of TFM. Maybe it will just take everybody else some time to realise this. But Watch out,YSR will be more talked about than ARR within 2 years!

"nothing to place him above other MD's like Vidhyasagar and Harris."
I didn't place him below or above YSR. All I said was that they were in the same boat. Although YSR does come up with some great numbers...as I said, he hasn't come up with anything exceptional. I liked the compositions in TI, but they were not in the outstanding category. That's all I can say, otherwise, I would start to repeating my own postings:-)
