going thro' the current topics, it is indeed very surprising practically nothing has been said about this genius.
his voice had the softness yet at the same time the masculinity to give the songs he rendered a very unique stylt. the % of hits to duds he gave would probably be the highest.

  A great singer who always says in his interviews, " Music without M - melody, makes U SIC ( you sick)! That is the state of affairs of song in tfm since 1975. No melody, No language! What a curse!

  PBS, apart from a great singer is a very good lyricist. he has penned many tamizh lyrics, but i'm not sure his were used in TFM or not. he has penned about bharathi and kannandasan glorifying them with the letters in their name. he is almost equally good in penning hindi lyrics also. if im not wrong, his three hindi lyrics were used in TFM. 2 are in Nandu, directed by mahendran and IR was the MD. One in older movie, i think it is sabash maapiLLai, but not sure of the film name. But it is a duel song between Shivaji and a hindiwala-like artist, singing or rather showing the prowess of Hindustani and Carnatic(tamizh) isai. The Hindi part of that lyrics was from PBS. The duel in the background was ofcourse between PBS and TMS.
  
  PBS is great in heart and glorifies the voice and singing ability of TMS (supposed to be PBS' rival) whenever he gives interview he never forgets to mention the song pon ondru kandaen pen angu illai and how he enjoyed singing with TMS.
  
  a great artist indeed, a gift to TFM...
  
  it seems the three letters B, P, S have given two tall personalities in TFM; PBS and SPB :-)

  the movie was thava pudhalvan. the song isai kettal puvi asainthaadum athu iraivan arullagum.( situation tansen singing deepak in tamil to revive akbar's daughter?)

  sung by TMS and PBS. PBS wrote a Hindi song for

  thanks sk i stand corrected. but kupps i think the movie is not sabash mappillai.
