  After listening hundreds of great duets in Tamil movies, I found the song UNATHU VIZHIYIL, ENATHU PAARVAI, ULAGAI KANBATHU' as a most perfect and complete melody. This song is from the movie: Naan Yen Piranthen. It has lyrics by Pulamaipithan. While, I thought it was MSV songs inspired by Vaadiyar, it comes surprisingly from the underrated SHANKAR-GANESH.
  
  I know it is difficult to pick up one song as the greatest, since each great song cannot be compared. But, listen to this song and you will easily note why this song is so perfect.
  
  This song has replaced my earlier winners such as:

  My all time best of SG is "Oru kaadhal dEvadhai" from Idhayathaamarai. Great interludes with elec. guitar and i have not heard of such interludes with elec. guitar. Great song!!

  if not for tye fact that it was a copy from a ghazal by jagjit singh,though i have not heard the ghazal,the song 'megame megame' by VJ is easily th bet and scores over everything else ,even the above mentioned songs in terms of its melody.

  There is an SPB, SJ song from Saayndhadama Sayndhadu. Also, called Oru Kadal Devathai. I Gopal, are you referring to this one?

  called muthu muthu therottam ,ennai ,mogam thalaatum which is next to megame megame in melody.do u know this?is it by IR?popular to a certain extent in the radios in the eighties

  Nithin,
  "Saainthaadamma Saainthaadu" is by IR and has great songs like "Kannan Yenna Sonnaan" by PS and
  "Enn Kaathal Devathai, Unthan Kannil Aadinaal" by PS & SPB and the movie starred Sridevi.

  madanochavam rathiyoduthaan--chadurangam is a direct lift from maana ho tum (toote khilona, yesudas), i think the music is lakshmikanth-pyarelal.

  maana ho tum music is by bappi lahari. I did not
  see anything similiar to this song and madanochavam. They interlude music is very
  different and I liked the guitar pieces very much
  in this song. It is one of the best from V.kumar

  What abt the song 'enai thedum megam sabai vandhu serum'(Kannodu kann - SPB,VJ)-a melodious peace

  SG scored music for one more MGR movie after Naan YEn pirandhEn - Idhya veeNai. It had some good songs
  
  - pon andhi malaip pozhudhu - TMS & PS
  - neeradum azhagellam nee mattum parkalam - ?

  Both the songs from nEEya are direct lift from the hindi version of Neeya
  
  Natchathiram songs: aval oru menagai
  vaanam engae mannil vandhadhu(both these songs were again the tamil version of the telugu original-film Sivaranjani)
  
  But this solo by SJ in Natchathiram was a good no:
  vaigai karaiyinil oru paravai adhu vaaanathil thedudhu than uravai
