A lot of tapes i bought released by HMV contain songs with edited interludes, preludes etc... They particularly indulge in that practice with a lot of IR songs. (HMV/EMI calls it "some songs are edited on this tape". Anyways, they never mention that on old LP releases though. Can't do that with some other composer's works? why IR?)
Take Anbukku Naan Adimai, Annai Oru Aalayam ( some fantastic preludes of Appane and Nadiyoram, Iravu Neram - however, these are there on musicindiaonline.com) Ilayaraja sings for you and many others.
I am very upset by their total disrespect of their work. Does anybody more about this? any similar experiences?

this is a bad practice.
for that matter, not just to IR they should not do to any composer, even to SAR, my favourite:-). they don't have the right to "edit" other's work. if they don't have space let them not give the song but editing is crossing their limit.

rf,
not only to IR, it is happening to all composers. Please don't use IR's name unnecessarily. People take this offencive and start fighting.

Most Saregama(HMV) albums are done this way whether the songs are from the 50s/60s/70s/... Only when you listen to the song in the movie can you tell how badly they've mutilated it.

HMVs reckless attitude is ridiculous! It is unfortunate that most of the great musical wealth of TFM has
been locked in the senseless hands of HMV/RPG/Saregam, whatever you call it. This is the fate of
music as a business. The businessmen who take over the business from another person, should
appoint people with a taste for music to work for them. There seems to be no knowledgeable
person in HMV Saregama right now and it is evident with the way they present music and the way
they display unwanted subjects in the catalogue, missing out the delightful greats in music. HMV
makes u sic(k)! NOT music!

Most affected by HMV are the oldies! msv in particular. poor tape quality, the irriating part here is their CD, they dont re-master it for digital output, they just record it from the TAPES and send it for CD press. It is something like is using a scanner to scan a photo and call it a digital image.
Like wise Echo is also of very poor quality tapes. (pink tape shell, yuk who designs these!)
how ever thank god, they have full song but their tape shell, case is of a very low quality.
We dont get value for the money we pay for these tapes. This is also the main reason for piracy!, people are fedup with these low quality tapes. HMV is the biggest rip of!.
Few companies like Sony, Magnasound make sure their tapes are good for the price we pay.
Thank god mordern composers these days also insist on good tapes .

Golden Hour series of HMV (claimed to be digitally remastered etc.) is junk. I got one (no marks for guessing whose)...the major irritation is the truncations on prelude & interludes (apart from the poor quality of recording / noise etc.) The song to suffer most is `siruponmaNi asaiyum'.

Above all if you listen the song in high volume, you can listen another song also in low volume.
Possibly it is the 'leakage' from another recorder from the recording.
Most surprising factor is the longevity of this defect!
I experienced this defect in the cassettes I purchased in 1980s, when I purchased cassettes of my choice in huge numbers from my first salary.
My god! I expereienced the same defect in the cassettes I purchased last week also!
It is paining to note that in HMV no one has noticed this defect.

HMV uses inferior tapes. In some cassettes, you can hear the B side content in reverse while playing A side. I have had a few such tapes in the past. And their cassette cases are unbelievably low quality. It would just break within a few hours after you buy it from the shop. You open it and close it a few times and that's it.. No matter how carefully you do it, the case is gone. Even AVM cassettes cases are like that. These cassette companies make huge profits by selling inferior products.

I think HMV edits songs more for old Tamil songs than for Hindi songs. I haven't seen any Hindi tapes or CDs with the disclaimer. I think they are trying to stuff so many songs onto one CD/tape and in the process edit a few songs. For example, one CD I have is Karnan/Ambikapathy. Quite a few songs, and I only wanted Karnan anyways. If they had sold a Karnan-only CD for $7.99 I would have been happy. Are the songs on Hamaracd.com edited?
My CD of Pyaasa/Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam has a weird echoey fake stereo effect applied to it. I wish I had some Tamil LPs so I could at least make good quality tapes of them. Ripping the songs from DVDs of old films might work if the sound quality is good, but one would have to adjust for the 4% PAL speedup.
Their early tapes, when they used the EMI label, were on good quality tape with thick shells and paper labels with the songs. Now it is only, "see inlay card for details," and if you are lucky, the name of the album.
Their economy tapes are often of poor quality. Some of the Sheer Magic tapes I have purchased were truly digitally remastered but many that I have, such as a TMS devotional tape and a few Hindi ones, are not. Only one or two songs from the Golden Collection tapes I have are remastered. HMV romba thiruttu company polirukku.
