  1.'aEdi poongodi aEnindhap paarvai! kOdi kOdiyO nee koNda aasai......yaarOdu yaarO? malar yaaar sooduvaarO?.....adi kaNNE kadhai enna?' was a soothing song sung by Manjula in the very beginning in some college singing competition where she walks away with the I prize!
  
  2.'sondham ini unnazhagil sorgam ini un madiyil...thaangaadhu pooppOtta manjam' was the crucial scene where Muthuraman overcomes his phobia towards his wife (based on some strong 'Malayala Manthrikam' performed by MRR Vasu on behalf of Manjula!!)and the picturisation was 'rasigargaLin narambugaLai muRukkERRum' to couch it in civilised language!!!!

  After the song 'aEdi poongodi' (sung by MR Vijaya, her first film song)... she receives the firts prize from MR with a lot of bending (junta used to mmmmmmm)... u missed this point :-)

  I saw Marupiravi some years back and was astounded by its bold theme, centering on 'Oedipus Complex' and its ramifications. A very unusual theme, for a tamizh film, even by today's liberal standards. And its all the more amazing, considering the period of its release-1973!
  
  TR Ramanna, a director who usually gave first-class entertainers, had strayed well beyond familiar ground, but the film was well-taken. A Srilankan psychiatrist, Dr.Kovoor(?), relates this case, and then the story unfolds. Good, restrained acting by Muthuraman and Manjula.
  
  Excellent music by TRP. All the songs were good, though my favourite as well is 'Yedi Poonkodi'-MR Vijaya- a lilting, lingering composition. A small delightful humming in the prelude gives a lovely opening. I love the way MRV sings the line 'Thedi vandha deivam yaaradi'.
  
  Sondham ini un madiyil-SPB, as CV mentions, has a steamy sequence, though entirely justified in the context. But Muthu doesn't overcome his phobia in the song, in fact, this is an unusual song, even in the record, the song stops abruptly midway in the third chranam- when Muthu tears himself away from Manjula.
  
  Oraayiram - a romantic dream song by SPB, with LRE humming. Muthu and Manju appear in Egyptian/Grecian costumes and make merry!
  
  Alaigalile thendral vandhu-PS- a haunting, melodious song, bringing out Manjula's unfulfilled physical longings.
  
  Kaaveri maandhoppu kaniyo-Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi- a caressing lullaby, feelingly rendered.
  
  On the whole, a wonderful, memorable score by TRP!

  Marupiravi is a good tamil movie except that it is a complete scene by scene remake of a malayalam movie where Prem Nazir,Jayabharathi and Sujatha acted.It was a bold and and original movie.

  Some trivia about 'maRupiRavi'!
  
  Both 'maRupiRavi' and 'arangERRam' were released on the same Friday (I think!) and had an 'A' certificate screaming from posters! There ended the commonality and they were as different as chalk and cheese! For the first few weeks, both the distributors indulged in a poster war (in Dina thanthi). 'idhu kaNavan manaiviyin dhaambadhyap prachnai! kaasukkaagak kaRpai viRRavaLin kadhaiyalla!' from the 'maRupiRavi' side was countered by ' idhu oru thyaagak kaaviyam! pOliyaana kiLugiLuppoottum kadhaiyalla!' from the 'arangERRam' side. At one stage, this was going beyond limits, with both becoming losers, which made the producers and directors intervene and end the poster wrangle!!!

  Subbu- Edi Poonkodi was not MR Vijaya's first film song, though it may be her best. Marupiravi came only in 1973.
  
  MR Vijaya's first film song was 'Madurai arasaalum Meenatchi'- Thirumalai Thenkumari-1970.
