IR - Creativity OR Knowledge

Music is composed sometimes by purely creation and sometimes manipulating the tunes....

IR once said MUSIC SHOULD BE BORN NOT MADE
and again some other time he says COMPOSING IS NOTHING BUT PERMUTATION AND COMBINATION OF THE TUNES ...WE ARE JUST FOOLING WITH THAT .....

IR is music machine that kept on churning out melodies from 1974 to 2004 ..3 decades ....and still going on ....What do u think its mostly CREATIVITY or KNOWLEDGE in music that is making him score so many good tunes........

  creativity and knowledge - a bit of both, called jack of all trades but a master of none.
  Thats why he is still in TFM.

  Music is nothing but a thought wave expressed in a coherent manner using musical instruments and human vocal and so composing is nothing but arrngement of the thought wave with as many permutations and combinations one can think of!
  
  Composing is a mechanical arrangement of sound, whereas MUSIC is more than that..it gives life to the sound wave (thought wave).
  
  One can teach nuances of musical arrangment, but nobody can teach music. It has to come out from within.. "Music should be born, not made" ..Just like life...

  No issues between the two statements from IR. The universe presents us with plenty of resources for us to play with, but music, like the universe's own energy, takes birth of its own will and nature.

  To answer your question - creativity or knowledge - it is both. Creativity is inborn, but you need the knowledge to direct it. IR has both in oodles. After 800+ movies, he is far ahead of any composer in the most widely exposed league.

  In IR's case it is creativity complimented with knowledge. Sample this song "endhan nenjil neengaadha" from kalaigyan. It's based on some beautiful classical scale. that is due to IR's vast knowledge in classical music. But the feel to the song is very different and new unlike his 80's songs..I think there in lies the creativity
