I did listen to these songs and my first impression is that KR wants to do a blend of
ARR & IR. Anaconda/SaravanaBhava belong to
the ARR Genre while Thakida thath is more like
IR (Check out IR's singing style in this song. It
is kind of complicated tune). KR's skills in Rthym
is very evident while his orchestral skills are
yet to see daylight. I really dont understand why
anyone would want to use Udit N for Thamizh songs.
Overall these songs will not be remembered in the
long run but they are good crowd pullers.

News for those who don't know yet:
MSV is acting in KaaKaa in a role similar to Balayyaa in Kaathalikka neramillai. Cho, Mouli, Nagesh are also in the cast.
- From: sree (@ orchid.cs.concordia.ca)

what?I cant believe MSV in that role.Probably because of the MSV size is nearly that of Balayya in kathallika neramillai.Who is directing the film and what is the cast?

Is this KaaKaa a remake of Kaadhikka Neramillai or you mentioned the similarity of MSV to Baalaiya ?

Sree,
Director: Singeetham SreenivasaRao. It was already mentioned by Rajan above.
RajaM,
Well.. it may not be a remake. (Kathayai yaarum solla maattengaraanga. ) But it sure sounds like an inspiration.

KathalA kAthalA and nAm iruvar namakku iruvar (by Sundar. C) are the same story,
inspiration from a holywood movie (forgot the name).
The story is about same OLD - doubel acting ulta

P.Deva in love with two sisters - onw with beard
and other no beard.
In KK, instead of w/wo beard - there is something
different. KK story/screnplay/produced by Kamal.

i heard the 'best' song from the film 'saravanabhava' sung by kamal in a pretty decent machine attached to a sub-hoofer and a set of decent singers and the song easily is one of the worst i have heard in recent times.
the kamal-singeetham srinivasarao combo in magalir mattum did not have any good songs either and KaKa is following the same trend.i do not know what has happened to kamal's taste or since the film is so good that kamal does not really care about the music.all these guys are missing IR badly. a couple more of bad albums and that would be the death knell for KR.

Folks
Listened to KK songs. You need one word of comment? GREAT! Almost Ellam tappAnkuththu kind of songs!
I am really impressed by the way KR uses the instruments! The guy goes from Reggae to tamukku with great ease and he makes it soft and melodious!! Totally new and different! I have not listened to one song (Laila Laila). The rest and comments are as follows:
1) Saravanabhava : Very very different. Definitely not catchy. Humming in the interlude is just great.
2) Madona pAdala : Catchy tune. Excellent modulation by Kamal.
3) kAsumElEy : Kamal and Udit (unbelievably acceptable Udit:( Best TappAnkuthu I have heard in recent times!!! Listen to the tavil beat for just two sec. in the beginning. Real daps. Tavil has been so well used in the song. The udukkai comes in between too! Great!! The voice mod., by kamal is great, again. Also, Udit has been shown his place by Kamal I presume. Few words to kill by Udit:((!! Song ends with 'Viswanatha vElai vEnum' tune in the end!!
Front and back benchers alike should go on the feet!! AhAmba, pOdey, amukki pOdu are the words used by Kamal adeptly.
4) ThakidathaththOm : The no. one song!!! IR has not sung or done a song of this kind!! Lots of
Reggae timing in the song. A real tough song to sing, and good modulation by IR the singer. Whaw! Hats off KR!!
I like it!! Apdi pOdey KR! KAttitabA! Real team effort by KR, IR, Kamal and Udit(less miserable:)

Here are my comments on 'kAthalA kAthalA':
1. saravana bava : A beautiful melody from Karthik. I would say this is the no.1 song of the album. vAli enkirunthAlum vAzhga!! yes, atlast he has written something about me :)) As gOpAl said, humming carries the song to the highest level. Great song.
2. takidathathOm : a dapAnguthu song sung by none other than IR. I love the charanam part of this song. That part makes you to feel like you're on a boat and sailing somewhere with your friends. Don't miss this one if you like IR's voice.
3. kAsu mEla : wow! how wonderfully Kamal expresses his shEstais in this song. A funny song, if you have no sense of humour, better fast forward, you won't like it.
4. anacOnda : Average song and somehow I think kamal and vAli have spoiled this song as much as they could.
All of them are situation oriented, so you've to watch the movie to appreciate the songs better.

Karthik Raja
Credentials: Son of Maestro Ilayaraaja
1. Repeats his not so famous tunes of the past in Hindi movies (Grahan....)
2. Adapts (what a word to escape) tunes, beats,
plagiarizing (besides tunes, catchy beats)
irritating stuff like 'check it out' 'baby' 'hip hop' 'blood pressure', 'wicket', 'key board', 'major minor scale','anaconda', 'madonna', 'lookku', 'pepsi', 'sexy', 'stop', etc., etc.,in every other album. Look we want thamizh songs. Not English songs!! We have great, much better musicians in the west who can give us pop stuff!!
3. As Rex AruL has pointed out elsewhere, the hum from George Benson's Nothin' gonna change my love for you has been (sic) 'adapted' in 'indha sirippinai' in NINI
4. I heard yAro yAryAro in Ullasam is again an outright
lift.
5. The bgscore of the song 'Madonna' in 'Ka Ka' is again adapted from 'Mea culpa' of Enigma! I listened to the song and I mean it.
6. His only folk venture was in Manickam. It was great. But what happened after that? He says I am selective. But his albums have been more rockjazzpop stuff and not a trace of 'man vAsanai'
7. KR is said to be the real chip off the old block. Not an iota of semblance till date, dear boy!
8. ARR would have started the 'annihilation of thamizh' movement. Thanx to his singers. But its KR who is C-in-C leading the movement now.
9. What is IR doing? Cant he stop this? Why a deaf ear? You can wake up a sleeping person. But those pretending ???
10. I think IR is trying to use KR as a trendy wagon for his 'return'. Sorry for this divagation. Cant help it. Its just not KRs credibility at stake, but its IRs too.
11. IR said 'indraya MDs mErkaththiya isaiyinai copy adiththu migavum pirabalamAna mettukkaLai vaiththu isai amaikkirArgaL.'
Does that include KR?
12. Forget copying etc., Why should the songs be unintelligible? The songs in NINI (Indha sirippinai) are so unclear that you cannot make
out what the singers are singing (yelling) Idhu thamizhukku thEvaiyA? Why import singers from the Hindi belt, if they are not capable of giving what we basically need? yEdhEdhO kuraigaL pOyi, ippozhudhu 'pAttE puriyalai' endra nilaikku vandhuLLOm! Should we encourage this?
The song 'Madonna' has English words @ two words per line. Why? puliyai pArthu poonai soodu pOttukondadhAm.
13. We know some MDs are selective doing just five movies in one year. Fine. Why dont you too follow that and do just one movie in one year with great lyrics, great tunes, inventive music? What do you need more? Money? You have that already!!
14. I am really impressed by KRs thagidathaththom annAchi and kAsumElE, both from Ka Ka. They are the best dapAnkuths in recent days. I definitely look forward to great music from this talented guy. Music thats naive! Not the ones we have already heard somewhere!

I got the tape of "Grahan" recently.
While it had one good song "Kehte Hain Jisko",
the album itself wasn't as good as I expected it to be (being his first Hindi movie and all that..)
Listening to "Aaj Main Kush" made me realize
wo must be responsible for the generic (confused) synth beats of some of IR's 90s songs
Did anyone else notice traces of ARR's "Yaar Adhu"
from "Mr.Romeo" in KR's "Disco Rap" ?
I am not talking about the tune (is there one in "Disco Rap"), but the a few seconds of music
(which is very much like the "Yaar Adhu"'s what-do-you-call-it, main guitarish synth loop :-))
Also wasn't it Hariharan singing in "Ye Sochta Hai Kya"? It was credited to Jolly Mukherjee, but sounded very much like HH to me..
What are the two songs in Grahan, that had
the same tunes of KR's tamil songs?

Rajan - Against your advise, I obtained the KaKa album. It is really not bad. IMO, the best song is Kaasumeleh. It is the best dappangkuththu in recent times. Even the lyrics are good, except for the part where Kamal goes into self-praise. By just listening to the song, I can imagine Kamal & Prabu Deva dancing! :-))) Simply great. This one song is worth buying the entire album.

I have recenlty become hooked to the song SaravanBhava. The song is simply superb. A very different attempt by KR. IR saayalum illaamal, ARR saayalum illaamal pOttu irukkaar. Pl. do not compare it with any of the others tunes. Despite Kamal's best efforts the song is great. My front runner for best song of 1998. :)
