Friends,
I think the time has come to do something about the menace that is DS RAMANUJAM, the film journalist or reviewer or whatever you call, who works for the Hindu. The way he misleads people about Raja's music in movies is just too much. In all his reviews, he somehow denigrates the calibre of raja. For example, in the review for the movie Talaimurai, he says Raja has recycled his old tunes. WHAT THE #@#@$#@$#@???
If you recall, years back, he'd written that the songs of Chinnathambi are just average!!!
And in his review of the movie "Sathileelavathi" he didn't even mention about the gem,"Rajanodu Rajan vanthu".
And he eulogises the "Creative Genius" and praises all his gana songs as "Foottapping Numbers", and his kuppai songs and even mentions the songs. It is really frustrating. He even wrote an article on Deva called "Lilting Tunes". First, I misread it as "Lifting Tunes" and thought that it would be a genuine article.
I just can't understand why this @#@@$@$@ isn't fired yet. Is it possible for all of us to send E-mails to THE HINDU explaining our anguish and anger against DSR? CAN WE DO SOMETHING FOR THESE KIND OF DETRACTORS??????
Please let me know about what you think.
PS: I'd highly appreciate the decency of the Raja-Haters to avoid ridiculing this forum.

VP: neenga thalaimurai pArthIngaLA?
generally, reviewers claim music to be good only based on its market value, the way they feel the music is going to sell. hence, as ravi said, we shouldn't worry much about them. as far as i know, only kalki puts its foot down on bad music and praises only good music(i remember the rave review it gave for IR's music in mogamuL).

Mano: I agree with you. I've long ago stopped taking Hindu's reviews seriously.
It works both ways - great songs are criticised and kuppai songs are praised.

Would you believe this..HE is so biased in writing the reviews. Long time ago i stopped reading his reviews....

I think he is being bribed by Deva. Deva is well known for bribing to media. Same case will apply for Tamil Cinema.com also. In their TOP 10 Songs, Almost 8 Kuppai Songs from Deva will be in their list.

Good topic....DSR....I think only he has to read his own reviews. This guy has always brought down Raaja in his reviews. His standard phrase would be: "Among the other ordinary numbers, Raaja's XXXXXX number passes muster".....or...."Ilaiyaraaja is absent in the movie".......Hare DSR......nEEnga pAAtuku dham OOtha pOna...eppadi appA IR absent AAgi pOvAAR??
He would have appreciated songs like, "Saidapettai Vaadi naan Koyambedu" or some trashy song from Sabesh Murali.....but would not even have mentioned great great dubbanguthu songs of Raaja like -- "Aiyaa Voodu theranthu thaan kidakku".
He is a biased guy and this is an open secret. When IR composed Symphony, Indian Express published a front page report........THE HINDU did not even mention about it as a small news....May be it would have carried some reviews later...but definitely it had nothing on the day Raja left for UK to compose his Symphony.
I respect HINDU for certain things, but seriously detest its way of covering certain things which it does for obvious reasons.

The Hindu film critic used to be known among my friends many, many years ago as Deaf and Senseless Reviewer. A few years later the recognition morphed into Dirty Scoundrel Rotten. Reading everyone's unanimous disgust of the cynical reviewer, I feel we should send a note to the Hindu, telling them we can't take this jaundiced reviews anymore. We should ask Hindu to be more fair and employ not just fair looking reviewers that go undercover like Dehydrated Sample of a Rodent ;;;;;;;))))))))))9

at least there is one guy out there who is willing to tell the truth. truth always hurts! i have admired IR but he is over the hill.He should take his life like Yasunari Kawabata who killed himself after he found his creativity going downhill.

mohd ariff: A creative genius that happens once in a few hundred years do not need to go to another extreme, especially when he knows that it is God's works. When you submit yourself to God, you don't have to do negative things in life. That is goodness of being spiritual. Please read an interview in Shubu's web page. You will see the profound understanding of the author about IR's spirituality and a reason he is more spiritual than others.
http://music.acmecity.com/keyboards/193/articles.htm
The article title is Matchless in speed and quality.
By the way, who is Yasunari Kawabata? Why did he have to kill himself. Did he not know success and failure are but two sides of the same coin? Was he not a balanced person in life? There is no such thing as success and no such thing as failure. One should view life as a journey and face both joy and sorrow with equanimity.
(Bringig discordant ideas like what you said here is very disheartening to say the least!!! You may stop listening to IRs music or stop being a well wisher but please do not say negative things to good poeple. Also, do you often talk like this to others? You can see I am quite upset that this great forum is being sullied with destructive remarks.)

mohd arif, kawabata killed himself bcos he lost his creativity???? absolutely not!! he killed himself bcos his friend , another writer died and he was depressed by it. and, what sort of a comparison r u making?? a person whose life is filled with sadness, loneliness, one whose novels are all stories of alienated individuals...with one whose zest for life oozes out in his music, one whose works continue to haunt the generations of music lovers... please don't make such comparisons, and to say one should kill himself is very rude..

DSR on MEM:))))
Music is one of the strong points of Rajender's productions and of the 11
songs, ``Hullo Hullo'' (S. P. Balasubramaniam and Sujatha), ``Kathale,
Kathalae'' (Unni Krishnan), ``Don't Try To Love Me'' (Anuradha Sriram)
and ``Nambathae'' (T. Rajender's song with a message) are bound to hit
the bull's eye, while the computer visuals give added boost to ``Monisha
Monisha'' (Rajender's son Silambarasan and his brother Kuralarsan sing
and dance in this number).

I suggest we should write to Hindu's general e-mail address about this and ask them to be more unbiased in their reviews especially not heaping non existent praises on Deva.I have a feeling that Deva must be buying lots of copies of Hindu everyday !!!!! or DSR might be related to him or one of his brothers(who stole some composing notes from Raja in 1991 or so).

Digression:
A small section from DSR's review of Kadhalar Dhinam.
The storyline of the director is definitely new to the Tamil audience. Romancing through Bill Gates' wonder discovery (The English movie, ``You've Got Mail'' dealt with a similar plot) and the ``net cafe'' segments will be unfamiliar to the rural audience.Even a professor in a reputed educational institute, Goundamani, does not know the meaning of ``mouse'' with reference to the computers. How can one expect the layman to know about it?
funny. especially the bill gates part.

>> Babu has choreographed the action scenes.
How do you choreograph "action scenes?" :-)
BTW, three movies have been reviewed in this section, and except Sangamam, the other two did not get any remark about their songs. If what they say about Anthapuram songs in this DF is true, I feel that DSR has intentionally excluded mentioning the songs. Bad attitude.

Yes, 'choreography of action scenes' is what most Hollywood films refer to in their titles. I think it means, co-ordinationg the action sequences, the movements, positions, props, camera-angle etc.
