The beatles I think were more interested in the mysticism and such stuff of the east, and they might have found this stuff interesting, rather than the sitar of Pt.Ravi Shankar. The above factors might have been a more compelling reason for them than Pt.Ravi Shankars music (I am not degrading Panditji's music here). Evrybody knows the life styles of then rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbathetc...

Udhaya!
you took the words out of my mouth! ARR is talented - he does not need to piggy back on a washed-up hack like MJ for anything. I am constantly dismayed when Indians feel proud when some mediocre artist from the West "praises" ARR (earlier it was Jennifer Lopez, Steven Seagal...mostly B-list artists)

I was waiting for bharath to post for reply, but....:)
More international exposure within the music industry is all this collaboration guarantees ARR.
--- This is what he wants, and it is his goal. he is looking for a ladder! to climb, a seasoned ladder is better any day. also Any musician will want to work with MJ...
MJ might not be as popular in the us, but he is still popular in europe and east.

srikanth,
i am sorry i some how missed this thread completely . I am genuinely surprised by some of the posts.
Udhaya's post:
//"While his falsetto voice and trendsetting pop set MJ apart from the rest, as far as music is concerned."//
if u have a good system then buy "off the wall" CD
and just play it. My neighbor has a 32 bend graphic equalizer and he played me the CD of mike he bought 2 decades ago. he just revoluitionized sound engineering in an unimaginable way! A person who has listened to ARR a lot like srikanth can understand this more. Look at the way mike arranges tid bits of musical intruments and loops in the song which can be heard much better in a head phone or a good system.
//"ARR is pound for pound a better overall musician than MJ or Andrew Lloyd Webber for that matter. "//
this is an immature silly comment! just take a look at diane sawyers interview with MJ in his recording studio. There r simply no words to describe Mike's genius. he rap-tapp-ed to every musician in his studio as to how his playing sequence should go. U should simply see the way he hums the trumpet segment to his assistant. sometime ago we had a big argument about writing notes thro the head. I understand the significance of that talent when I just reda "mike and his magic".
//"More international exposure within the music industry is all this collaboration guarantees ARR. "//
Mike might not have been present when ARR composed and recorded but if ARR was lucky enugh to actually work with mike. ARR should have his knowledged enriched by "n" times.
//" Our musical history is remarkable as it is. "//
good or bad I dunno but 30 % of our population may listen to western music but not more than 1 % of the west cares about us. and that is a fact!
//"Even the Beatles came to India and fell at Ravi Shankar's feet. Not the other way around. "//
over exhuberant patriotism!
//"It will be a sad day when an alleged pedophile lends dignity to ARR. "//
please "alleged" and convicted have a very different worlds or meaning. Since there is no court of law incriminating him u have no evidence or facts to prove ur point. If the the boy sincerely was affected why did he just not get mike arrested. why did he have to get the money out of court and prostitute himself.
u can appreciate with what little u know but to crtisize for "qualification" purposes u HAVE to know a lot. mike's struggle in life and his musical talents are quite significant for u to toss it like a cheap sox.
the best thing for us is to prophylactically say apples and oranges and stop comparing ARR and MJ
remember MJ composes, sings, writes lyrics, choreographs, dances, performs concert shows, takes music videos all by himself. he doesnt have a spb to sing for him, an IR to compose or a prabhudeva to dance for him. and MJ has been # 1 in all of that at some point in time.
tell some Indian MD to do all the above or one of these backstreet gases to do 1 of the above .
//"MJ might not be as popular in the us, but he is still popular in europe and east. "//
what he says! :-)

Udhaya,
"It will be a sad day when an alleged pedophile lends dignity to ARR"
I think that may not be the right way of putting things in perspective. His music and his character(perversion included) are two different things. If a person likes/dislikes MJ's creative output that's fine.
A critique of MJ's thinking that he/she has the right to link MJ's creativity(or lack of it) to MJ's character may not be the right approach.
Do you think any accolades from one of the most famous musician has no(or negative) worth because he is perverted?

i frankly detest gays and drugged rock stars as much as this ununderstandable pedophile concept.
MJ's eccentricity and idiosyncracy is so pronounced that u have started to believe that he is not exactly in sync with the normal human being. so any weird story abt him would sell.
he has so much distanced himself away from public scrutiny and his life with the ape and python was so full of anomality that even if an average joe wanted to believe in mike he wud have some doubts.
I dont advertize that u all go and read MJ's history from A-Z but just understand this he is not a show pony or a figure head like britney"blunt" spears or no sync buthe is a perfectionaist par excellence.
have any of u guys seen the motown 25th aniversary show or the 95' MTV music award show! look at the perfection in whidch every step of his syncs with the music.
plus there r abt 2 dozen people who have shot into popularity because of MJ. Alanis morissete, BOz II men, R Kelly, puff daddy sprouted under mike.

bharath, udahya did not mean any harm to ARR
and we call can read english :), so please give some new points rather than analyze udhayas..imho he gave a clear opinion, he is correct to the core.

Bharath,
I don't understand your outburst in defense of MJ. If you like him for his music or whatever else good for you, dude. My point is...well, just re-read my previous post I don't want to belabor my point.
Oh, one other thing, don't assume you're the only one watching award shows, concerts and MTV, please. The rest of the world doesn't quite live in a vacuum.

on what!???
//"I was waiting for bharath to post for reply, but....:) "
to what ?
//"rather than analyze udhayas..imho he gave a clear opinion, he is correct to the core. "//
udhaya was completely wrong to the core! His opinion or points , i did not agree with, and I thought were mis informed or factually wrong! my post was a repartee to his!.
//"and we call can read english :), "//
a useless smart alec comment! something akin to the sudden comment u gave in "IR experiments" thread. although this attempted sledge reflects u have decidedly decided to oppose me. needless to say I dont care.:-)
//"udahya did not mean any harm to ARR "//
did i suggest anything like that? he meant harm to MJ! I was replying to only that! again some "dubagoor" comment!
I dont understand! why this unnecessary agression!???
nice strategy but wont work :-)

Some corrections here. Quincy Jones arranges and the brains behind MJ's album. Quincy is the genious who made the clarity and revolutionised music (no wonder quincy has the highest number of grammy's under his belt -ever). If you see the fine print each album of MJ has arrangements by Quincy Jones. He is the hidden man behind MJ's success and it is well known that which ever album Quincy works - though he does the final touches - it is the touch of quality. I can say (again this is my opinion) that MJ's quality of music has really done good ONLY after his association with Quincy Jones.
ARR should be lucky to work with MJ. MJ has definitely brought in fresh trend in music and electronics.

//". He is the hidden man behind MJ's success and it is well known that which ever album Quincy works "//
the last 3 albums dangerous, history and invincible have nothing to do with Q. Jones. and IMHO dangerous is MJ's best album!
Q.Jones has come up with good artists but to credidt MJ's success to just QJ is not very wise
It is common knowledge that he is a musicican turned execcutive producer. now suddenly he arranges for MJ ???
srikanth,
i didnt understand ur question! was that cinema studio of music studio?
what do u mean by speciality!
