Survival Technique of DEVA
I have been wondering how is he surviving. Agreed he is lifting scores, in spite of all the magazines bashing him for coping - raja's scores etc, still he is the busiest MD in TFM.
People listen to his score more, all the producers and directors approach Deva
he is the top of the order composer .
How is he able to do it ?
Has people's taste come down, or is DEVA really giving better music.... ?
Let us discuss ....

guys!
you have done it again. you are all waiting for an opportunity to bring raaja into any discussion and once that is there you just forget the main purpose of the thread and discuss about raja's greatness and how he has been ill treated.
i request you to keep your raja devotion in proper perspective and debate on basis of issues. this is an abuse of fundamental right of opinion.
please don't make this a raja discussion forum!

badri: I agree with you. So all Raja related postings go from this thread.

Ravi.... enna idhu??? Do you think this "makkaL" agree with you???
I certainly disagree that Deva is the guy started "the copy business".
The copy business started when the TFM started. Earlier copies are within Indian music. Now the copy goes around the world. MDs like Sirpi, Vidya Sagar are doing the copy business more than Deva. All the hit songs of ULLathai ALLitha were copied music only.
Copy adikka samarthiyam vENDum. adhu sila MDs (including Deva) kitta irukku. aanal Deva ivangaLai minji N-alla music kudukkirar. Matha copy adikkira MD-kkaLudaiya RasigargaL, andha copy-ai oththukkavE mattengranga. ellorum "Music enbadhu ellorukkum sondham oru composerkku vandha adhE though innorutharukku varkudaatha??" appdinu kELvi kettu thappichchukkaranga. It is a very sad thing.

Hi Pb,
"Copy adikka samarthiyam vENDum."
"complexity of a process does not justify it to be correct"
eg:
--> Kollai adikum samrthiyam vendum"
--> Poi sollaum Samrthiyam vendum
--> Poi yai marika S.V
I feel - What Deva does is incorrect.
If India Copyrights law had been effective like the US CR laws, Deva would have been sued long long time ago..

Hi Srikanth,
Deva copy adichadhai N-an defend paNNala.
I also agree that the 'copy adithal' is illigal.
The way in which he copied is better than other.
He mix up his own music with the copied music.
For example he copied the music for the song "Thanga Magan ingu ...." in the film Bhadsha, he copied from Vivaldi. But he used carnatic and Hindustani too. His copy is not as the copy of Sirpi's "adi anarkali..." & "chittu chittu kuruvi."
in uLLathai aLLiththa.
If India's copyrights law effective-a irundhirundha N-iraya padamE vandhirukkadhu :):):)... wgy do you know? kadhaila copy, music-la copy, N-adippula copy.. appuram enga irundhu padam varadhu??
In Indian film film industry Feroz Khan got permission from Mani Rathnam and produced Dhayavan. Similarly Kamal got the rights from Govind Nikhlani and produced Kurudhippunal. He also got rights to remake KP in Hindi.

You guys are practically sounding the death knell of TFM :-( thankfully there shall always be those MDs who did justice to their jobs. And I don't mean only IR, even MSV and ARR shall be remembered for their original compositions whether appreciated by all or not. Anyting in this world can be justified and apparently a lack of creativity can be very easily justified. Art is the child of creativity. I fear there shall be a time in the future when Art becomes a predictable and monotonous subject. I shall not ask you to wake up - but I vow I shall never close my eyes or ears to truth. For lack of anything better, mediocrity does not become genius - it never shall.
Deva will surely destroy TFM one day - and we are helping him do it by accepting his 'music'.

Srinath, you raise an important issue. All through history people have fought for equality and democracy. But democracy is the worst enemy of the arts, it invites participation from the least qualified. On the other hand, during elitist times like when Michaelangelo was doing his art in Rome there probably weren't many other lesser artists. So if fairness prevails in the arts, mediocrity rules. If only good artists are allowed then elitism prevails. What is the best alternative? At least in democracy, there is a one in a million chance for a commoner (of means not of talent) such as IR to crash the scene and claim the limelight and there are plenty of choices for the selective ones.

Udhaya:
I guess the only solution is to judge the product and not the producer. I don't mind participation from the least qualified. The more the merrier :-). And as you said, it also opens up opportunities for a commoner like IR to display his talents. My grouse is against rewarding participation when we must be rewarding the victors. I sincerely believe that those who deserve, shall prevail. But we must not interfere and try to impose balance by putting a loser on par with the winner just because they ran the same race. After repeated such interventions, the winner will lose motivation. What difference will all that practice, sweat and hard work make if the loser is held on as high a pedestal as the winner ? Is it not for that glory and uniqueness that the better man struggles so hard ? Do we have the right to snatch away his victory just because we have the numbers on our side ? If we fail to judge with cold precision, we shall soon forfeit the right to judge at all.
We should not let the complacency set in. We may not be able to prevent the Tamizh public from accepting Deva's music. But as educated, reasonable people we must gaurd ourselves against loss of judgement. It could ruin all that we are judging now.
Deva is a sub-standard source of music '.' :-)

what u have said is absolutely true and well said.when IR was reigning supreme the hindi MD's used to copy from his tunes and i was proud of the fact that a south indian MD was able to hold the attention of the whole nation.but people like deva spoil that stand and they may also reverse the trend.HE IS NOTHING BUT A DISGRACE TO TFM.he and his rowdy brothers are a bunch of jokers.they do music with the attitude 'make hay while the sun shines'.
deva is what u call a typical cheap mentality person with no class at all.I hope that he would win a big lottery or something in the near future, so that he would stop making music at all.

also a piece of advice to mr.prakash balakrishnan:
time and again u have made some baseless allegations against IR and time and again u have been proved wrong.so pl. verify the validity of your statements before posting it.if u want to just catch the attention of others or want to have just publicity by making false statements like this then i think everyone else here can do it as well and much better than u.
i agree that deva is not the one who started copying, but he is the one who made it as a business! how many MD's have copied so many songs in so little of a time and have gained so much fame?! deva in my opinion is a rich man's sirpi and he will remain like that forever.

Vijay,
Thanks for your advice.
Before Deva, few other MDs also did the business with 'copy adiththal'. For example the MD called 'Veda' scored music based on Western classics (Meaning 'copy adiththal').
Famous MD pair Shankar - Ganesh also did a very good work of 'Copy Adiththal'. Shankar - Ganesh, Hindi-yilirundhu 'copy adiththa' padalgaL irukkiradhu.
My point about Sirpi is very much correct. I have listened the original songs which Sirpi did.
We can find out Deva's 'Copy Adiththal' because of to-day's technology. Today we have 100s of TV channels, Internet, interest in Pop and Western Music, etc.... lead to find out the source/origin of the 'Copy Adiththal'.
Another thing Deva also gave good music in among the present MDs.
I hope you will agree for this.

though veda and others might have started the copying , veda did not enjoy success as much as deva is doing now.that's what irks me.MSV was still the dominannt MD in those times.but now deva is the guy with the highest no. of films.
he simply does not deserve that.
he is bringing down the respect of tamilians earned thru hard work by MSV,IR etc.

hey Prakah, if u dont know the MD Veda u are referring to did not smell success.. so he swapped his sylables to become Deva.. and later on Thenisai Thendral Deva..
something like, how mantra became some other creature in Telugu, for attaining success and how
Muniamma in Tamil, became Kuppamma in Telegu to achieve success!!!
Just a thought..since i have never seen Veda!!!
