Here is an idea that I'd like you all, but especially the site administrators to consider:
There are some newtfmpage visitors who are seriously knowledgeable about music. And there are others who may not be as knowledgeable about the theory of music as these people, but they are still serious fans of TFM. Most importantly, these individuals are mature, serious people who enjoy discussing sensible aspects of Tamil Film Music (not topics like "A R Rahman knows nothing about music" or "Ilayaraja is an idiot", etc.).
What I would like to suggest is that admin build a section on this website that is restricted to these serious individuals only, who can provide valuable criticisms (or accolades) of the many artists in the industry. This section can become the official representative site for TFM fans, and we can get music directors, singers, etc. to visit that site to read fans' comments, and maybe they will have an even better idea of their fans' interests so that they can provide us with even better work.
I think this will give us, as fans the satisfaction of being able to communicate with our favourite artists, and them, as artists, a valuable opportunity to communicate or at least read about fans' opinions of their work in their own time and place.
I understand there will be questions on how to decide who is a serious fan and who is not, but I'd like to hear from you guys and see what you think of the basic idea first.
What's you're opinion?

Vijay -
This is a really good idea. It is about "Discernment" NOT "Discrimination". The forum you suggest could be a valuable resource and provide a much needed space for honest, thought-provoking and constructive criticism. Music-lovers can benefit greatly from this, and Music Makers can get a sense of how their Music is really being received.
YES, THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO ARE INFORMED LISTENERS AND YES THEY DO CARE ABOUT QUALITY, AUTHENTICITY AND COMMITMENT TO THEIR LANGUAGE AND MUSIC.
I hope you get many "serious" replies. This is a good start for some intelligent and specialized discussion.

Yeah.......
this is indeed good idea..
it can be implemented..
i had always felt that many of the postings in TFM are done by immature guys and doesnt have any knowledge about music.....they dont appreciate good music, instead, jus their fav. artists. tat is a wrong conception.
music s'd be analysed in such way tat, it s'd have meaning.........

The reputation that one builds in newtfmpage is because of two things:
(1) content
(2) tone
The moderation of newtfmpage has not been done well for some time and that is the reason why all these apprehensions about quality going down and musings on having an 'elite' area have come. It used to be a forum with occassional misbehaviour which would also be condemned and seriously dealt with by the admin. But presently the tules have been relaxed and this has allowed to progess to nadir. Nevertheless there are still some good discusions going on. IMO, instead of having an 'elite' area, it will better suit the admin to moderate more effectively to make it a more 'polite' area.
I miss all those discussions by some knowledgeable DFers like Shashi, SL, Sreedhar Seetharaman, Srikanth, rajaG, rjay and many more..As long as people ( like pesudo SPB bhaktas) frequent we will not have good discussions but only junk.

Well, MS, you're right, better moderation would also be good, but admin probably aren't going to have the time, and also the accessibility of the internet has grown to such an extent that almost anyone can make postings on newtfmpage, so there will, unfortunately, be a huge amount of junk posted here making it difficult to cut out. But certainly, if we could get better and more effective moderation, that is certainly good enough for me.
But making the content "cleaner" and more polite was only part of my suggestion. The other thing I'm suggesting is that the administrators work towards getting this page (only when it's cleaner, of course) the status of official representative website for TFM fans to communicate with their favourite artists. A bit like the official X-files fan club page, perhaps. This would be good in my opinion. I feel that serious musicians would like to hear what their fans have to say about their work provided the fans give them useful feedback. Maybe they won't have a lot of time to be reading our comments anyway, but certainly, I feel that this would be better than other ways of communicating with them, for example by sending them letters or e-mails giving them vaguely appreciative comments such as "Hello Mr Rahman! I think you are a great music director!! You are a genius!!" That may be true, but A R Rahman wouldn't be able to learn what exactly it is that his fans like about his music. So I think it is important that we establish a way of communicating with these artists. And I feel that this would work, definitely at least to a certain extent. For example, R Madhavan, the actor, is known to visit his fan sites on the internet, and the producers of "The X-Files" are also known to visit their fan sites. So I think it's definitely worth an effort, getting newtfmpage a bit of recognition from the industry.
And by the way, I have to accept that this is obviously not purely my idea, I'm sure other people have suggested this in the past, but I'm just making a "renewed appeal" here.

good attempt vijay....hope u are successful...i'm really fed up of all these immature postings one get to read from certain people...it makes the whole thing aggressive....and this is a trend we shouldn't follow further...i would appreciate harmless, meaningful, intelligent messages from real music lovers, who are able to 'discuss' music without starting any useless battles on the topic...
but i must admit, i think it is a rather difficult task to 'abandon' those, who keep on writing nonsence in the threads...how can one define those people? no idea...
but hope this vision comes true...

"how to decide who is a serious fan and who is not"
definitely you can not...first of all it is not necessary that a fan should know any details about music at all..a fan is a fan..no definition suits beyond..they like particular mode/style for either explainable or unexplainable reasons..there has already been a section/thread dedicated to "amatuer music composers", where others need to raise themselves to step inside..But what happens..people do not enter once for all and the entire knowledge discussed/transferred is going to be in big vain..On the other hand, people have to understand that even a simple music lover has his own idea and thoughts and due appreciations are for him too..I too see lot of people, who can not write even a complete sentence in english trying to convey a message...tfm page has to take it...the guy(s) contributing in this thread has someway/in some thread involved in different sort of fights at some point of time.. The problem with so called knowledgeble DF ers is that some of them they don't care to bother about what others write and feel..they try to stick to their own legs rather listening humble opinion of others....i fact one such guy used atleast 20 different names feeling of having a big fun here..do you call him/her a serious fan?? in the eventual progress they make most of the thread to discuss within themselves (whether really worth for others or not) not giving damn importance to other posters...so if they are truely concerned then they should go on without bothering digressions...if they stay away from not posting..then let them stay away as geniouses..

lets see where it goes. Anyway, all the best! I am pretty sure that we ca see all kind of bashings here in this thread soon, since it's very difficult to see who's really serious and sensible. Everyone thinks they are sensible enough about what they say or write. mm.. lets see.....

Good stuff Vijay. This works for everyone. Now we can all learn of one another and we can all get a better understanding of the technicalities and other issues concerning the area of life we all love- MUSIC and FILM. You can see already, from the comments written on this thread how frutifull it could be. Hope all goes well. Good luck.

All users must have userid and password. And getting a new userid should have a 7 day wait. That way people cannot create dummy userids so easily. If any user posts a junk message, the admin can just block him. This is better than the IP address blocking. This way we can ensure that a persistant spammer/junk-poster can post junk messages only once in a 7 day period.

And why don't u all just the chop the heads of anyone who tries to enter the forum? That way only the headless can participate. :-))
Talk about self-importance!

yes WhyNot
they are indeed thinking to chop off the heads of those who are Raavanaas, having multi-head and hence multiple mouthes and hence creating lot of noise. if those don't show off their extra unnecessary heads then no problem. hence they want and trying to device ways to implement it.
Hope this helps.
