Ramki,
u are perfectly right. I for one dont understand this thing of introducing singers from the North when u have great talent here. sonu nigam jas joined thenlist of singers killing tamil. these guys dont understand the lyrics. how can we expect them to sing with the kind of Bhaavam that SPB or KJY express in their songs.
this is one clear reason why TFM standards are going down.

........ TFM standards are going down.
Says who?
Not the average music listener. The one who actually determines the success of an album/movie.
On the contrary, the general feeling is that TFM is reaching new heights!

Ramki:
Well Said about these Tamil killing singers!
However
'Kavitha subramaniams(formerly known as kavitha krishnamurthy)tamil pronoouniciation is the only sore point in this otherways excellent song ' ....
This comment is not fair. After hearing
very closely many times, I didn't see any mistake in her pronounciation (Much better than those Mallu hypes, who after singing for 15-20 years still fail in la, lla, zha pronounications)

Mr.Bug
Jeans and Pants podravanga ellaarum atha kilichuduthaan pOdrangenru enga paartheenga? Not to mean any offense, for I hold my culture very highly in mind and heart, but jeans and pants are a whole lot more comfortable than Sarees. Please put on a saree and walk around in it before you start putting down Jeans and Pants, or to add Churithaars.:-)) Then you will not complain about Jeans and Pants. Why...I bet you would praise the makers:-)) Furthermore, the Indian male population has been wearing Pants predominantly for the last 50 years, especially in the urban areas. So please explain how the
'kudiya seekiram' comes in. And in the 50 years of predominantly wearing Pants/Jeans, how many people have you witnessed in India wearing it torn. Well, let's leave out Rajni uncle:-))

Balaji I should have written tamil accent instead of pronounciation...I want to listen to a tamil song without any accent...indhamma romba seyarkkaiya(probably its her iyarkkai tamizh)paadraanga. This is one of the reasons why i dislike hariharans singing too(matha reasons sonna i will be branded HCHH:)).

Ramki.,
I haven't listened to 'Rhythm' yet., But Kavitha Krish. paththi neenga sonnathukku naan 100% udanpadukiReen.,
I have the similar opinion abt. Sadhana sargam also., 'Snehithanee., '., 'Konjchum MainaakkaLee' - I didn't like her in both the songs., Yaaraavathu thamizh therintha singer paada vaiththirukkalaam enpathu en thaazhmaiyaana apipraayam.,

Aruvi,
I was trying to give
an analogy for the westernization
of tamil songs with special
tweaking of the pronounciation of
tamil words to sound hi-fi.
that is why i said jeans-torn-wear
etc.
I am not against pants or anything
just tried to imply the US culture.
maybe i should taken coloring of hair
as latest trend in US.
looks like i have done a poor job in
analagy.:-)
By the way, sathyama "haiyo" song sagikala
.That is why i said that.
Am i right?

Rhythm—an off the cuff review:
Nadhiyae—Grants the pleasure of sailing to exotic locations in a lazy raft. Unni Menon renews his most-underappreciated Thamizh singer award. Vairamuthu almost makes you sorry that his collaboration with ARR has ended.
Kaatrae—Unni Krishnan has reached that comfort zone as a singer where he's not worried about letting loose and it shows here. With SPB's semi-retirement, at least UK has taken the torch of singing with a sense of elation. Bless him. Now, Kavitha...hmmm, what can I say? North Indian restaurant-la saambaar serve panna maathiri—we appreicate the attempt but, no thanks. But she doesn't injure the song with her alien Thamizh as tracks 4 and 5 have been.
Nilamae—This is the most experimental of all the tracks. It would take repeat listening to appreciate this track fully. The sandham is very unusual and seductive, there's no way to predict the next line—a real treat. Shankar Mahadevan may be an acquired taste for some, but I for one adore him. His masculine timbre with amazing dexterity reminds me of T.R.Mahalingam. ARR has taken his east-west fusion another level. He creates a mirundhangam effect with keyboard drums and bass that's awesome.
Warning: If you're an ARR devout, stop reading right here!!!
Aagaayam—In one word, Paadhaalam. Saadhana has taken a beautiful composition, probably enjoyable lyrics (no way of knowing with this female singing it) and done to the tune what 15 cops did to Rodney King a few years back, beat the hell out of it. Vairamuthu probably started to slit his wrist for this song...
Thee—Remember, I said VM started to slit his wrist for the last song, well, for this one he would have gone all the way. Vasundra makes one yearn for Malgudi Suba, if you thought that was a compliment then you and I don't see eye to eye. And Udit, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
NOTICE to Sandhana Veerappan:
Yov, Rajkumar-a vittuttu Udit-a kadaththuyaa, naan oru panamudippu, beedi kattu, saarayam ellam padayal vekkuraen.
Overall: ARR must be sent to Thirukkural concentration camp for his choice of singers. This could have been a grand slam 5 for 5 winner like "Sangamam". But then he had to pick singers for whom Thamizh is a flirtation, not a dignified language. 3 great tracks and 2 sacrificed to Thamizh kolai. All in all, three steps up and two steps back.
P.S. Geetha, if you read this, please pass on my outrage to ARR.

U:
Even i heard those tracks, Arr should take a serious look!... Pronounciation is much worse than junoon kind of tamil and 3 chords per song....even my calling bell has more chords in its tune...frankly this is no good going for arr..he is losing his rhythm, I wish he does justice to accepted movies.
till what I have heard ---
Bayangara "Sumarana album" ,
I will have to hear more from a CD to judge the scores.

Swami,
A tip for not getting disappointed;)). Keep your expectations as low as possible and dont read all the advance hypes and previews of the album in TFMpage or anywhere else.
These days I listen to albums with the mediocre-unless-proved-otherwise mentality;)) It helps.

The recent surge of discussions blaming ARR for using non-tamil
singers seems absurd to me. I dont know whats the earthly problem in
giving the songs a little novelty by using new voices from other
languages.
In any case Rythm is not a devotional/ classical soundtrack that the
lingua-police gets so heated up! Its just a movie's soundtrack and
there's no probs using a hindi voice to add to freshness to songs. I
think aiyo pathikichu is imminently listenable partly due to
Vasundara's and Udit's kiddish non-tamil. Its damn cute!
Blaming Rahman for it (and applauding Ilayaraja for using pure tamil
voices) is ridiculous. The lingua-police doesnt
understand the concept of unity inside this country? I can understand
if they have a problem with an Italian lady becoming this country's
PM, but hey this is just a movie's soundtrack! There's nothing
earthshaking gonna happen to the popularity/ history/ richness of
tamil as a language if non-tamil singers sing tamil! Their effort is
actually appreciable.
KJ Jesudoss has been singing his mallu scented hindi, tamil for ages.
SPB still occasionally does his tamil scented hindi! Srinivas has a
lot of southy accents in his hindi too, so does Unni Menon. Lingua
Police doesnt have a prob with that eh?
If they claim that the standard of tamil (which is THE oldest
language in this world and one of the most rich, in terms of heritage
and culture) deteriorates just 'cos a Udit Narayan and Vasundara
attempt it, I dunno how I can persuade the lingua-police to have
their heads checked!
