i define north as peopel who have been introduced in hindi ,flourished in hindi ,then came to south ...

I feel NORTH is the winner ...
UDIT NARAYNAN,SHUKWINDAR SINGH ,Sadana Sargam ,Kavitha Krishna Moorthy ,Asha Bhonsle ,Hariharan ,Shankar Mahadevan (though these peopel are tamilians) ,KK .....

But as far as southees who have excelled in north ...

  Quality wise North suffers in Tamil. When we were young we used to make fun of 'Sedjis' in chennai about their tamil. But some singers sing like that nowadays. We have more tolerance i believe.
