How many of you saw "Ramana" ?
Excellent BGM by Raja.... Raja is a big pillar in the movie. An action packed venture with Raja's grand BG score after a long time.

I remember reading a couple of years ago about IR doing this English film with Rajeev Anchal (who directed the Malayalam 'Guru' that had a spectacular score by IR, one of his career best IMO) called 'Beyond the Soul', touted as a Hollywood production.
Now, the following link says, Vidyasagar is the MD and he says his notes were played by the Hungary orchestra!!!! ONNum puriyalaye??? I guess there was a fall-out between the director and IR. Perhaps IR didn't agree on his remuneration, perhaps he didn't like the way the movie shaped up.
The story goes like this....
The hero thanks to bad 'Karma' in his previous birth gets some incurable disease; he finally realizes that his answer is in Ayurveda.. supposedly propagating India's heritage! With a storyline(!) like that, I am sure it will be a block(ed) buster! Apparently it is getting released on 2nd Jan in 'Hollywood', whatever that means.

there was a huge feature about this production in Chicago Reader, an ordinary film with local Chicago technicians and just completed without any formal script etc.. something about karma... no scope for songs or even bgm as this was a kind of a personal journey of rajeev anchal, who had no money to actually finance this movie on a big scale.

Happened to see Devi magazine latest issue (1-1-03). There is
a tidbit on this. KaNiyaan song was used to be sung in the
villages in Tamilnadu and is now on the verge of extinction.
It is a song form which involves only 6 people - 2 for singing,
2 for playing thappu (a rhythm instrument) and 2 for dancing.
It is performed mainly during the poojai to Maadan, Vaathai
(village deities). The music has got the power to enchant
anybody who would dance automatically on hearing.
In the film Kamaraj, his mother is invited to be the guest
for one of these poojas. I think it may be the title song.
When director Balakrishnan narrated this situation to
Raja, Raja got excited and wanted to do a song on this form
immediately and wanted only Vijayalakshmi Navaneethakrishnan
(famous Tamil folk singer) to sing this song. However, it
seems the director preferred Raja to sing this song.
The articles concludes saying that the director has given
an audio cassette of this song form to Ilayaraja, which he
sourced with great difficulty.

I watched ivan on DVD. IR's BGM on 2 sequences was exceptional. The scene beginning with Soundarya reading bArathy's poem and dreaming about pArthipan has a longer violin piece.
Just before the movie ends, when pArthuipan sends her a paper boat and shows up in front of her- The beginning mellow violin tracing the path of the paper boat to pArthipan, transforms itself to an intense emotional piece just as she unbelievingly realizes his presence. The short piece sharply and accurately portrays sorrow and misery swelling from the core of her being. It immediately transforms into a nice WCM sounding piece as she feels happy.
BGM was a nice surprise from IR. I wish I could see the movie many times just for the BGM, but pArthipan's conviction about his "messages" leaves me no other choice but turning the T.V off.

When i casually searching for some of the IR songs in Musicindiaonline.com site, i happened to come across a movie called 'Kaathirupen Kathaliye' which says music director as IR and also mentioned as New Movie. I never heard such a movie name. But to surprise me three out of five songs from the movie are real classic. After long time i am hearing beautiful melodies from IR. Inspite of bad sound quality i thoroughly enjoyed the songs. Here is the link. http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/l/WW000A4W
It would be great if anyone can upload nice MP3 quality songs of this movie.

Folks,
sort of a digression.. I bumped into a a couple of songs last night and thought they were just too good..
#1. manathile oru paattu ( Thayam Onnu ) - I just have the audio tape and i guess is sung by Asha Bhosle ( not sure ) but this is a classic ..the interludes and the vocal support was terrific..
#2. PaariJaatham .. ( Railukku Neramachu ..Ramarajan starrer i guess )
both these songs were too good and i dunno how i missed these songs all along ..
If any of you have these songs, pls give it a shot and I am sure u'll be impressed..
Enjoy
MSK

MSK,
Manathile oru pattu was sung by SPB. I guess there are two versions then.
