Amidst all the hype for albums like KV, SMK, AM et all, I'm surprised nobody has anything to say about the music of Five Star. Personally I enjoyed the movie too...after the initial scenes in the college which dragged a bit, the overall movie was refreshingly different and mature. Kudos to the director, who's first movie is yet to see the light of the day!
The music was fairly good, I should say. The background music was terribly jarring, but songs like 'Thiru Thiruda' (Pick of the album), 'Engirunthu Vandhayada' and 'Rayile Rayile' were pretty interesting. Rayile had some bizarre interludes which only showed how new the composing duo is. But Thiru Thiruda is one hell of a song.
Any comments?

Thiruda Thiruda has been heavily inspired by Aaliyah's - We need a resolution. It is sad to see such blatent theft.

Music is by Parasuram Radha (singer Anuradha Sriram and her hubby Sriram Parasuram)...if thats what you were asking.
Aaliyah!:
Hrd Aaliyah's We need a resolution. Yes, a majority of the orchestration seems to be lifted, including the actual tune for the verse, 'Thiru Thiruda' (this plays right from the beginning of the song!)...but to be fair to the composers, the tune in Five Star sure seems to have been adequately Tamilised.
But frankly, I was quite shocked in the amount of orchestration these debutant composers have lifted from this song!

"Thiru Thiruda" sounds more or less a rehash of "Vaseegra" from Minnale. Any comments welcome.

I saw the movie. It was very nice. The only LET DOWN was music. BGM was so pathetic.

How could you, how could you pass off 'Thiru Thiruda' as having been 'adequately tamilised'? I thought 'Engirundhu Vandhayada' was very ordinary, in the film it's embarassingly funny with that frail plain girl trying to metamorph into a sexy babe. And her dancing! 'Rayile' is one ok no., but in a marketplace crowded with Harris, VS, YSR, etc. i doubt if this duo can shatter fresh ground.
Scenes heavily inspired by the now-jaded Maniratnam-style, a story stretching the limits of increduility.. you will see why despite the usual PR flagellation by Madras Talkies, this star is floundering very much in the ground.

Not that it's a big deal... but though I should clarify it anyway...

Even though the amount of inspiration was considerable, I found Thiru Thiruda a well composed tune...going by the paragraphs and actual tune. These are no justification for the massive lift, however.
But I liked the movie though. Very unconventional and minimal sentiments. Yes, there are generous Mani style scenes (Engirundhu was stright out of Kannalane), but this was one different Tamil movie. BTW, check out Kumudam's review of Five Star. After a loooong time, they have praised a movie completely...even with a Sabaash at the end. The music is the only dept that gets a drubbing!
But sure, Parasuram Radha is doomed. I think she better get back to singing and he composing for pop albums that impress Maniratnam, but not enough to give him another movie. I remember reading that Susee Ganesan and Mani heard sample tracks from as many as 5 composers before zeroing in on Par-Rad. Singer Srinivas was supposed to be one of them. Going by what he composed in 'Ini naanum naan illai' in YNRAI...I feel Mani should have asked him to compose!

i loved the one at the end "oru manam"... lovely composition... especially at the end, in which the dog jumps into the well and the line goes "oyudhey.. oyudhey"... damn good.
BG... the BG given for the abroad scenes is damn good with some WCM violin pieces (Parasuram is known to be a good violinist, am told) and especially the cab-chase scene in which the BG lifts the tempo when Ilango is being walk-chased down. i would call an-ok attempt at BG. Atleast they tried to be different.
Sad to note that "Thiru thiruda" is a ctrl+c.. :(... someone give the link for the original..???!!!

Here's Aaliyah's original: http://launch.yahoo.com/song/default.asp?songID=3288488
I just read over the weekend that Saregama (formerly HMV) filed a lawsuit against "Truth Hurts" for lifting an old Lata Mangeshkar song for the song "Addictive." Wonder if anybody would bother suing Parusuram-Radha? (If you sue these guys, then what about the rest of the TFM composers?) Further saddening to note that Aaliyah isn't around.. :-( that's probably why these guys figure nobody's gonna know!...
