I liked this song a lot just because it seems brand new and experimental to me. it is a slower and much simpler no frills tune, but yet not ordinary at all. the interludes are just ilayaraaja on another platform. it will be good more of such very straightforward experimental songs from raaja, who has catered this one definitely for a specific hindi audience, real music lovers who will understand his intellectual musical abilities and who will appreciate his bgm.
Great work, raaja. (only one flaw in the song for such a intelligent composition. i wish raaja would stop the dialogue and imitation style for the pallavi's.)

Guys
Lata again!!! You too IR?? What is wrong with Sadhana Sargam or Kavitha Subbu? When IR gives tamil songs to them, why not hindi? Is Lata still retaining her stronghold on HFM? Or has IR lost his taste for good singers? Why don't we hear SPB, KJY, Janaki, Chitra singing for IR these days, except for the odd song?
raaja fan
What do you mean by "dialogue and imitation style for the pallavi's"? I also felt that the pallavi did not blend into the rhythym that well. Something similar to 'undhan raajjiyathil'. Is it some style of composing?

Mr.Anonymous,
"Also, its kind of funny listening to lyrics in Hindi since the tune is typical Raja style."
Do you think Hindi is much below the dignity of receiving Raja's style of music?
Oor Vambu & Anonymous,
Like many other sensible IR Fans whom I know,
I believe I find the song good and in His typical style! Except for the bad recording quality in the cassette ( which will be alright in a cd) I found no flaw in it! Lataji's voice was not that bad as you all say!
BTW, why do you two use the same adjective, 'uninspiring'? Are you both the same?

hi friends
just listened to the one song by IRR in lajja.
i found it pretty different..of course the best part of the song is the background orchestration..typical IR style..elaborate and complex.
Its a nice hear.I am sure the BGM is going to be mindblowing !

was IR sleeping when he composed the song ? one-off hindi attempt should ahve been even better by his own standards. just keeps throwing glimpses of his BGM capabilities here and there in the interludes, otherwise, a largely 'one-time' song.
and yeah, Lata better stop singing atleast now .. but somehow ARR doesn't make it too painful to hear her ( digital mastery ?? :) )

What a pity! U get a chance in a Hindi FIlm and U blow it away l;ke this! Can't believe this !!!
Annu's Kalyug Ki Sita Song seems FAR..FAR.. better! (Annu must be having a hearty laugh!!! Thanga Mudyallah). Song sounds worse than the third grade HINDI MD's songs!!
IR! sorry Vaththiyar! Neram Saryillah!! Verah enna Sollah!!!!
Disappointed Fan!

Guys, I too heard the song (Ascharyam). But, lata's voice is bad here. Also, the songs situation probably demanded a slow song. Again, for God's sake don't compare IR with AM. I believe that we all are in out right consious. But, all said and done , and oppertunity wasted by IR. Atleast from here he should realise the immportance of good sound recording. Listen to the same Lata in "Khamoshian goon goonanelagi" in 12ka4. Just a small term (engineering) makes the sifference in sound.
I saw the promos in TV. BGM seems to have come good. Hope it clicks.

I too heard the song (Ascharyam). Do you mean to say you never listened to IR songs?
The song is really great. First time I listened to, I liked the song. I started skeptical before even listening. This should be one of the best songs HFM come across in recent times. Catchy tune and beautiful orchestration.
Song engineering? Sounds great. With 20kbs streaming audio you are talking about the sound engineering. Feel pity on you guys.
Opportunity wasted by IR? It must be you wasting the opportunity not to listen to the songs with open mind.

As much as I could hear it at 20KBPS recording and through my low sound producing ESS sound card. Since I am an ardent/die hard fan or IR, I expected the song to be the best in the album and also be an extraordinary one. My opinion about the song :
1) tune is okay, not bad, but I wont say its something extraordinary. Its simple & catchy. Though its a typical IR'ish tune, somehow I also felt a bit of North'ish style added to it. I dont know how far I am right in this. I just felt it.
2) Lata's singing was okay, not that bad, but probably a choice of Sadhana Sargam, Kavita or Alka Yagnik would have been better.
3) Interludes are really good. I would say its the major scoring point of the song. I think the first interlude contains Sarod and also voilin at the end. Its really good. I liked the flute and the voilin in the second interlude too. If I have made some mistakes in recognizing the instruments, do let me know. I am not very good at it.
Vijay, though 20KBPS is not enough to know the exact quality of recording, its enough to have an idea of the recording quality. That's my opinion, because I have heard many ARR songs (when they get released) at these sites at 20KBPS and one can make out the quality. Its not that the recording of this song is bad. Its certainly good, but considering IR's good orchestration skils, tune, the song could have been elated to better heights with a better recording. That's my opinion.
Overall an okay song with very good interludes. I want to listen to this song on a CD or tape.
KS, thanks a lot for the link.

that's probably a bigger review (than required) for a single song :-).
Also, I am hoping to see the BGM.
RAAJANGAHM, I have a request. Is it possible to upload the title score BGM of "Devadhai" movie. Its really good. Its the one that comes in the end. Also, do you guys have any news on HEY RAM's BGM release & also about the album featuring Kiran Bedi.
Thanks,
Krishnan

Guys!
Give maestro a break, man! People talk of a one time opportunity, as if he were some fringe zonal player trying to make it good in the national cricket team.
First, of all in an album consisting of purely mediocre songs, Maestro has done a great favour by adding his composition. The other great favour he has done is to compose a symphony score for a movie in which in the middle of his composition, he has to put up with AM's high decibel screeching.
Secondly you people talk about ARR's high technical wizardy and great engineering knowledge -in fact, when you talk about ARR's music you talk only about the technical wizardy, not about the composition. When you talk about IR, you talk about composition, orchestration and the different instruments he uses, which is what you should be talking about, when you are talking music, not engineering and fluid mechanics.
Thirdly, yes lata is getting old! She does not sound as great as she used to! But, i think you must take it for what it is! Raja in composing 'Kaun Dagar' is not playing to the masses; he is not trying to compose a chart buster-he does not need to. The song is just the coming together of two great musical artistes - one great artiste's belief in anothers greatness. In not trying to polish up Lata's voice through hi-tech gadgetry, Raja just reinforces his faith in her to infuse life and soul into the song-which is what has happened - check out the depth of feeling which goes into it and you will realise how different it is from your 'jiya chale' etc.
Finally, let us hope, as ardent IR fans, that 'Lajja' clicks, and IR gets due recognition nationally, because of what promises to be a fabulous background score, which he eluded him for 'Hey Ram'!
