  I am a great fan of SPB,TMS AND SJ.I have found that SPB popularity lasted as MGR and SIVAJI were the leading heros.He benefitted a lot from the lyrics of kannadasan. TMS and SJ ,one the other hand,have been consistently popular over sevaral year,irregardless of who the screen heroes are.

  SPB is a genius. There is no doubt about it.
  He is the best play back singer India has ever prouduced. I think nobody can match SPB in his voice modulation and improvisations(Ex..Niveda song in Nee pathi naan pathi). He always enjoys the song he sings and that is what gives life to that song.

  I think he is one of the greatest singers India has ever produced..to say he is the greatest ever(which i am dying to say)is to take away sheen from some of the other greats in Indian film music like Mohd.Rafi,Keshore,..etc..but to me he is the ultimate singer..I love and enjoy each and every song of SPB....the voice modulation and basically his divine voice is unmatchable....GOD please give him another 100 years.....

  It's not so fair to say that SPB is the best playback singer ever. Maybe that's true for Tamil ot Telugu film music, but as far as Hindi film music is concerned that's totally erroneous. Take mohammed Rafi, for instance who could sing bhajans,kawwalis,thumris,folk music,classical based songs as well as rock-n-roll and pop.
  And Manna Dey, an expert in folk and classical.
  Don't forget Mukesh,the soulful voice, and ghazal maestro Talat. Not to mention, Hemant Kumar.
  And why forget Yesudas too?
  As far as the ladies are concerned, its definitely Lata and Asha. The pristine sweetness and divinity of Lata, and the startling versatility of Asha are unparalleled in the whole world. I think , people from the south find this a bitter pill to swallow. But bad luck! That's the undenied undisputable truth!!!

  U may be correct about Rafi but u r making a grave mistake comparing other singers like
  mukesh and mannadey to SPB.
  I dont know if u know any of the south indian
  languages which spb sings in.If u then u wont be commenting about sp's verstality.
  
  It takes something to win a national award particularly for a song in a language u dont know.
  I am talking about his award for Ek dujey key

  U were right SS.Just dont compare spb with other singers.I can tell that he is the only singer who can sang all kind of song,in different tones and in many languages with good pronunciation.Maybe rafi can be best in hindi songs but spb is best in ever all.

  I am really a crazy fan of S.P.B.I just love his 80's songs with his golden voice.Every night i must listen to his voice be4 go for bed.I admire his voice and the way he song some songs with stlyish espeacially for rajini.
  Although many singers r introducing in tfm nowdays but S.P.B is only my chooise.

  Some people want to compare SPB with bollywood singers. Well, to them i make a humble request. Please donot make any comparision in thefield of good music. We should learn to enjoy good music- whether it is from Kishore , Rafi , Mannadey , Lata ji , P.Susheela ji , TMS, PBS . KJJ Or SPBji.
  Each one of the above and many others not mentioned above are masterpieces, and their contribution to the indian film music is great and render us dumbfounded.

  Very happy to see such a site.
  I’m a great fan of SPB. I love SPB like anything. I just go crazy when I listen to his songs.
  I have listened to songs of lots of other singers in all various languages but I find SPB the ultimate. No other singer can beat him, rather compete with him.
  Kishore, mohd rafi, Jesudas, TMS also sing well ; no doubt in that, but SPB is the best in terms of
  his Voice, Modulation, Style, Pronunciation and everything else. He just gets immersed into the song he is singing. I love all his songs in all the languages. I keep listening to his songs everyday in TV and just keep wondering about his voice – It’s really a god’s gift.
  
  I really got impressed by responses of meena, shoba, ss, kalaivanan. Thanks for the same.

  I totally disagree with you on the fact that SPB is better than Rafi in terms of Voice, style, pronounciation and modulation. There is not a singer in this world who can sing better than Rafi did. His voice was truly god's gift and no singer can match his "dard" or the "pathos" in his voice. I agree that SPB is a good singer and one of the best we have had but there is no way he is better than Rafi. Rafi was the pride of India and there is no one who will ever come up to his standards. No singer can ever do what Rafi did over the span of his career. And in terms of range, no singer can even claim to have half of the range that Rafi had. By the way, did you know that SPB's childhood hero is Rafi and he fashions singing in Rafi's style. No singer can ever be compared to Mohd. Rafi Sahab and that is a fact !!
