I know this would create lot of flutter and annoyance for many. But I am saying this after considerable analysis of many songs of SJ. I also have another newtfmpage friend who agreed to my views (I think his name is Satish). Usually a person's voice, when not comfortable at certain pitch, tends to reveal the difficulty in the voice or causes a very unpleasant tone. But SJ's tone is different in different octaves. That what makes me wonder if she sang in pseudo voice. One best sample which comes to my mind is the song 'Vanithaamani' from Vikram. In one of the charanams, SJ sings 'Nicham, nicham' - which sounds very 'un-natural'. I guess she even talks in pseudo voice (I know few people who do that - taking in pseudo voices). Please throw ur comments on this. Ofcourse, I like SJ for her nice nature and her mimicking talent - there is no second opinion on that. But this is my comment on her voice.

hi Ravi,
I support u for this, but i am sure we will receive many brickbats for this:), bcos people tend to be partial, rather than neutral, when discussing about their favourite singer. '
cheers

Ravi ,
Possibly this is what they call modulation???

Well Ramki, I dont see it as modulation. Modulation is understandable in case of gamakkams or changing one's voice for the entire song but voice being different in different pitches?? not so sure if its called modulation.

Ofcourse, SJ's tone is different in different octaves. This is a plus point in her singing career and can definitely cannot be done by other singers.

An emphatic no. She had a geuninely melodious voice. She has always been a sincere and dedicated singer. I cannot agree with the statement that she sang in a false voice. She is truly one of India's greatest voices. Her songs in several languages are a testimony to this fact.

Ravi
I told u. diehard fans have a particular mindset. Whatever u say they will not agree:) about her pseudovoice. I completely agree she is versatile,
and appreciate her good qualities, but the fact remains. I feel the MDs used her voice for its versatility, though knowing very well abt its pseudo nature.

AV, fyi, all of the qualities which you had mentioned (melodious, sincerety, dedication) can happen with a pseudo voice too. I am talking about such qualities, my point is that she sung in a pseudo voice.
