  I guess, what sunil wants is the copying (translating !!) of english poems by Shakspere, Milton, Shelly...

  Alright guys,I'll tell you what I meant.
  
  There are a lot of Tamil songs which have the same tunes of top English numbers.Like:
  
  1. The song "Adi Anaarkali" from "Ullathai Allitha" is a lift from the song "Summertime" by Shaggy.
  
  2. The song "Akila Akila" from "Naerukku Ner" is a lift rom the song "Buffalo Soldier".
  
  3. IR's "Darling Darling" from "Priya" is a lift from "Sunny Sunny" by Boney M.
  
  4. Deva's "Alli Alli Anarkali" from "Arunachalam" is a lift from "Didi" by Khaled,though its not a English song
  
  5. The song "Set uppe maathi" from "Sundara Purushan" has been copied from two songs. The introductory yodelling is copied from a song in "Jungle Book" and the rest of the song is a lift from another of Khaled's songs.

  A direct lift from the title tune of the hit movie "FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE". I dont know the name of tamil movie. I have asked for that.

  Recently i heard a song by Bob Marley the king of reggae music. the song is (i think) 'Get up stand
  up..'. The tune for this 'Get up stand up..' is
  same as the chorus interlude for the song
  'Aval varuvAlA' from Nerukku Ner.(i was unable
  to make out the lyrics for this interlude
  chorus. sorry!).
  To say another one for now, the starting violin
  (or starting music) of the song 'annAmalai
  annAmalai aasai vechen....' from the film
  'annAmalai' is a lift from a symphony composition

  Hello,
  English to Tamil list can never end. Lot of Tamil songs (Old and New) have been lifted from Western Classical too.
  
  Recently I heard a similar version of 'Chittu Kuruvi Mutham thadavi..'(something like that) - By Ilayaraja in W.classical. Another one I used to hear regularly hear on Radio is 'ABC nee vassi, Kai Rosi' -- again by Ilayaraja. I am not picking up on Raja. I am a great fan of him. MS. Viswanathan is no exception either. Forget all these people. Some of our morning AIR music is from W. Classical. AIR is still living under British Raj.
  
  The most interesting thing I have heard so far is from my English Professor who used to tell us that some of the Kannadasan songs are copied from English Literature. It was hard for us to b'ive until he translated some of the famous songs. May be someone can post such songs..I mean lyrics getting lifted from English to Tamil.

  'Chittu kuruvi mutham thadavunathu ...' IR song illa .... I don't think kannadasan
  knows English. In Tamil only very few people who wrote original lines. Spare them please.
  Even recently in 'Kaadhalar thinam' in one song ARR used the TITANIC

  IR is gift for Tamilnadu who introduced the best western music It is the mixture of tamil style and western style
  
  I think ARR simply use english beats as it is
  and it is really good to listen
  
  But we can listen the same music from english music and then why the hell we need ARR

  Oh sera sera is a famous song and has been copied in various languages. Including Tamil" Chinna ponana pothillay"Its just not just english coping anymore, tamil songs are starting to sound quite similiar. I can pick up traces of one artists work in another artists song. Its really sad.

  I've been looking at this site for ages, but thought I'd post today. This is a very interesting topic indeed and since I listen to a lot of western music, some of the direct lifts are very obvious.
  
  As much as I enjoy Deva, I think he gets the gold medal for his copies(sic)
  
  For one take 'Thilothamma' from Aasai, its a complete lift from a famous Middle Eastern singer(she dies recently) Ofra Haza and the song is her 1988 european smash called 'I'm nin alu'
  
  Also Deva's quirky "pooja Vaa" from Priyamudan, which lifts some of the effects from viju shah's 'Gupt' soundtrack in hindi and Queen's Flash Gordon' soundtrack wholesale !
  
  plenty more and I'll report them later..
  
  As usha mentions he mixes like a DJ, but I think he's fun :)
